E26: The Kingdom of God and Prayer
In this episode we look at the relationship between the kingdom of God and prayer. The Lord’s Prayer (Luke 11:2-4), the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18:1-8) and Jesus’ exhortation to prayer (Luke 21:34-36) are discussed in light of Jewish apocalyptic expectations. Rather than the common tendency to realize or spiritualize themes in these passages, Jesus exhorts his disciples to sobriety and to live in anticipation of the coming kingdom and redemption through prayer.
Ep. 6 - What's in a Name? Anonymous Texts from the Early Church
The work of the early Church was largely done by Christians whose names we’ll never know. In fact, many of the most important documents from the first and second centuries have unknown or uncertain authorship. In this episode we examine some of those fascinating documents — the Didache, the Letter of Barnabas, and Second Clement — and we pay homage to our great (though nameless) ancestors in the faith.
