Sydney Caron

Sydney Caron was born in Toronto, Ontario and lived there her entire life; that is, until the Spring of 2019.

That's when Sydney landed in Nova Scotia, Digby to be more specific. She's a Guest Service Agent at the Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa and she loves where she lives and what she does.

Sydney is a "Big City" person no longer and she has embraced the small town life in her home away from home, and says the best part of the area are the people who have made her feel very much at home.

Chef Dale Nichols

Chef Dale Nichols is a native of Moncton, New Brunswick.

He is a true Maritimer with a passion for the indigenous products of the region.

He attended George Brown College in Toronto and apprenticed at Torontoâs Sutton Place Hotel with mentor Mark McEwan in 1981.

After 14 years in Toronto, Chef Dale moved back to the Maritimes where he has participated in many fundraisers, and designs his menus around regional products and traditional cooking methods.

He is featured frequently on Breakfast Television and CBC, the recipient of the 2001 TIANS Ambassador Award for Food and Beverage, has been featured on the cover of MacLeanâs Magazine and featured in Saltscapes magazine and the âCondiment Kingâ.

Chef Dale is also a member of Sky Chefs, an initiative by Canadian Airlines to design in-flight meals for travelers. In 1999, Chef Dale traveled to Taiwan to represent Atlantic Canada during a Food and Beverage Promotion in Taipei.

Chef Dale has most recently been the Executive Chef at the Fairmont Winnipeg, the Keltic Lodge Resort and Spa, and now we are thrilled to have him as our Executive Chef here at the Digby Pines.

His Philosophy? Develop a solid work ethic, leave your ego at the door and bring your pride inside.

Eleanor Nixon

Eleanor Nixon was only three years old when she moved to Digby, Nova Scotia with her parents in 1931.

Eleanor lived onsite at the Digby Pines for much of her childhood as her father, William âpopâ Hanson helped build the well known golf course.

The Pines is quite special to her and she tells some of the wonderful stories of her youth spent living in cottage 1 in the winter and then moving to a small house near hole #8 in the summer.

Stories of covering the pool windows in lye to prevent the birds form flying into them; getting a horse that her parents knew nothing about until they got a call to pick it up and an accident aboard a British submarine during World War II that found them tending to a young sailor and ended with a dinner aboard the sub as a "thank you"

#3 Wie geht behindert?

Sind wir nicht alle ein bisschen behindert? Oder darf man das nicht sagen? Was ist behindert? Wer ist es, wer nicht, und wie geht behindert? Und was darf man eigentlich sagen? Digby spricht darüber mit dem Sozialwissenschaftler und EUTB/Berater vom Berliner Berhindertenverband Christian Grothaus. Christian selbst sitzt im Rollstuhl, da seine Beine nicht ganz so wollen, wie bei den meisten von uns vielleicht? Wie geht man denn mit so einem "fehlenden Part" eigentlich um? Und welche Lebensunterschiede entstehen dadurch? Und überhaupt hat man wohl erstens eine andere Sicht auf die Welt und dann eine andere Selbst-Reflexion. Sie reden über Lebensqualität und was die ausmacht, über Coping-Mechanismen, Mentales und Alltägliches, was Barrierefreiheit ist und sie reden über Grenzen und darüber hinweg... - wie immer: echt; nicht "P.C." ;p Viel Spaß und Aufklärung!

#2 Was ist ein gutes Leben?

Mal im Ernst: wissen wir eigentlich (noch), was ein gutes Leben ausmacht? Haben wir "hier bei uns" nicht ALLES - so schwer sollte das doch nicht sein, oder? Also, was bedeutet ein gutes Leben zu haben, was ist es und was ist es alles nicht? Um der Sache mal auf den Grund zu gehen, hat Digby den Tech-Philosophen und Autor Felix M. Wieduwilt zu sich ins Studio geladen, denn darüber forscht, dreht und schreibt der frischgewordene Vater. Und trotz aller Unterhaltung wird einem klar, obwohl die Kernfrage eine simple Antwort verdient hätte, ist es doch ein wenig komplizierter, weil komplexer - und das häuten der Zwiebel beginnt. Felix erklärt z.B., dass und warum wir endlich aufhören müssen mit "Schuld" zu arbeiten, oder wie entscheidend Selbstwirksamkeit ist, und dass eigentlich alles bei echter Achtsamkeit beginnt (und welche Achtsamkeit die falsche ist)... Digby spricht u.a. darüber mit dem Gelehrten und Historiker Dr. Andrew Dodd, Kanadier mit schottisch-deutschen Wurzeln, selbst Migrant und Berliner. Außerdem erkunden sie in ihrer ersten Begegnung das wohlmöglich allerorts so belastetete Verständnis von Stolz, Nationalstolz, sowie das heikle Thema um "reines" Erbgut, das unbeeinflusste Gen, und was es damit eigentlich auf sich hat, was Glaube und Irrglaube daran ist.
