Michael Wood: Transport Minister on the 'rapid review' into KiwiRail amid Wellington disruptions

The Transport Minister's raising the alarm over maintenance of KiwiRail's sole track car for inspecting the lines.

The Government's today launched a rapid review after the vehicle broke down.

Metlink now says Wellington commuter services should be back to normal by Thursday - after major disruption today - a day sooner than first announced.

Michael Wood says it's clear KiwiRail needs to do better.

"They need to put this right. The rapid review will delve into this, work out what they got wrong and come back with recommendations to make sure it does not happen again."

30 Days Left In 2020! What This Year Taught Us

30 Days Left In 2020! What This Year Taught Us

Like every one of you, Eddie and I had made the perfect plans for 2020. We had everything mapped out and had goals set for the year. Lo and behold, everything was turned upside down with the pandemic and other events that have happened during this quite challenging year.

Amidst all the difficulties, we have learned important lessons that we thought could help you too. As a matter of fact, people grow the most during challenging times. We have previously shared our story of losing almost everything during the 2009 recession, but it ended up being one of the biggest blessings of our life.

The first lesson is that you are not in control. You can make the best plans, and everything just seems figured out, but for some uncontrollable reason, all your plans are thrown out of the window. However, this doesn’t mean that whatever you had planned will never take place; it just means you have to be patient.

Tune in to this episode to hear all the important lessons we have learned in 2020 and how to apply the lessons in your life.

    Key Takeaways

    • You are not in control; some uncontrollable reasons can derail the best of plans (13:24)
    • Disruptions are not convenient but are absolutely necessary (16:37)
    • Most things are out of your control, but you are always in control (20:28)
    • No matter what, humans need connection (28:56)
    • We see the world very differently (32:48)
