270: Boone Helm the Kentucky Cannibal: One the Wild West's Wildest Outlaws

270: Boone Helm the Kentucky Cannibal: One the Wild West's Wildest Outlaws

Levi Boone Helm. The Kentucky Cannibal. Born in 1828 in Kentucky, and hanged in Montana Territory in 1864, this guy was mayhem on legs. He spent nearly his entire adult life fighting, robbing, killing, and running from the law. He killed at least 18 men in various shootouts and other violent encounters. He ended up stuck way out in the woods on numerous occasions with no option for food other than to eat another grown man, which he did if he got hungry enough. He spent his final days riding with The Innocents, an outlaw gang active in Bannack and Virginia City, Montana, before a massive vigilante mob brought them down. Lotta yip, yip, yaw in this one. Hail Nimrod!

    Bill Tilghman | Frontier Lawman

    Bill Tilghman | Frontier Lawman

Bill Tilghman - the legendary lawman best known for hunting down bad guys in Indian Territory - got his start as a teenaged buffalo hunter on the Kansas frontier. After that he spent years patrolling the tough streets of Dodge City with the likes of Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, and Charlie Bassett before moving on to Oklahoma where he did more of the same. Friends with guys like Luke Short and Doc Holliday. Rubbed shoulders with outlaws like Dave Rudabaugh and J.J. Webb, Tilghman wore many hats throughout his life.

Senator, husband, father, scout, Rancher, saloon owner, movie producer, actor, and then finally – at the ripe ole age of 70 – Tilghman pinned on a badge yet again to take on the corrupt boom town of Cromwell, Oklahoma.

    Maybe. Or Maybe not.

Join me today as we find out more about the man who - according to Teddy Roosevelt - would charge hell with a bucket. The man who Bat Masterson once said was “the best of all of us” on this newest don’t kill the messenger history is complicated and sometimes our heroes are flawed and this is probably the last ever episode OF The Wild West Extravaganza!

    218 - The Bloody Benders

Life was NOT easy on the American frontier for European and American settlers in the 19th century. You lived off the land or you died trying. You were always one wrong move from freezing or starving to death. You had to defend your property from horse thieves, bandits, and American Indian tribes understandably pissed off that you’d just settled on land they still felt belonged to them. And if you lived in or traveled around Cherryvale or the Osage Township in rural southeastern Kansas, you had another thing to worry about: being literally hammered to death by the Bloody Benders - a family of four killers. The Benders, sometimes called “America’s first serial killer family,” killed travelers that were unlucky enough to stop for the night at their tiny inn. As settlers swung through on their way to make a new life for themselves in the wild west, maybe carve out a small fortune, they were seated at a table, and the head of the murderous family, ol’ Pa Bender would beat their skulls in. Then daughter Kate would slit their throats, and then either Ma or John Junior would drop their body into the cellar via a trap door. And later, one of the members of the Bender brood would bury the body in the orchard or vegetable garden out back.
This tale is a straight up real life horror movie in this week's, is this a new Rob Zombie movie? or an actual historical examination? episode, of Timesuck.

Episode 18 - "The Ghost P. Traveling Medicine Show"

Episode 18 - "The Ghost P. Traveling Medicine Show"
Oh what a week this week has been. First off, welcome to GhostPee the House! Kick off your shoes, take a seat, and let us regale you with our tales from the road, as we have also just returned from the first installment of the Ghost P. Traveling Medicine Show, which savagely comedy-ied it’s way through Kansas this weekend. Nick (@kickholland) and Weston (@westonunruh) were joined by Dan Jones (@danomanjones) and French Accent AKA Kevin Bennett (@pianoman69). As usual, there was drinking, there was laughter, there was merriment, there was irrationally misplaced aggression, and potential paranormal activity. We recorded a great deal of this from Kansas, so its sort of like you were right there with us! We are also incredibly excited for the upcoming inaugural show of GhostPee presents Blunted Comedy at the Cheba Hut, this Saturday June 19th at Cheba Hut West (Taft and Elizabeth) show is free, starts and 9, live music, live comedy, full bar. Come down and join the fun.
