132 - Emilio Comici: beyond the impossible | Eleonora Pescosta | English version
Comici represented style, elegance, and purity in his approach to the mountains. Beyond mountaineering, Emilio Comici conveyed a message: always take the risk, believe in your dreams and dare who underlies only your failure. Emilio Comici had the courage to pursue his passion, a difficult, modern and contemporary choice that made it possible to live the best, even in the darkness that gripped his soul.

San Lorenzo Lodges | Owner, Stefano Barbini: Italian Fashion, Luxury in Pajamas, and The Pope's Mistress

San Lorenzo Lodges | Owner, Stefano Barbini: Italian Fashion, Luxury in Pajamas, and The Pope's Mistress

Today’s guest is Stefano Barbini, owner of San Lorenzo lodges in Italy - White Deer in the Dolomites, Holy Deer in Rome, and Blue Deer which is actually a custom built, luxury catamaran that Stefano likes to call his “sea lodge.”

If you like authentic travel, San Lorenzo lodges are the stuff of your dreams. White Deer is a 16th century hunting lodge, previously owned by a Bishop, that the Barbini family reclaimed. Holy Deer is an expansive apartment in Piazza Novona - which was once inhabited by a Pope and his mistress.

Stefano himself had a 25 year career in fashion, and was the CEO of Escada in Italy and France. His wife, and co-owner Georgia comes from a well known fashion family in Italy as well. Leaving fashion to start anew in hospitality - they knew they wanted to do something differently.

Stefano and I discuss how he and Georgia found these incredible jewels, how they play host to their guests personally, and the secrets to discovering the heart of Italy.

Gregg Garfield & Anneliese Johnson- COVID Patient Zero Medical Miracle Survives 64 Days in the Hospital with Support from his Village

Gregg Garfield & Anneliese Johnson- COVID Patient Zero Medical Miracle Survives 64 Days in the Hospital with Support from his Village

Gregg Garfield is the owner of CardConnect E.V. and Chip In, a credit card processing company. His girlfriend, Anneliese Johnson (AJ) is a mother of two teenage daughters and a wealth manager. Gregg and AJ heartedly support the peaceful protests for Black Lives Matter, but they’re concerned about the spread of coronavirus as large groups stand elbow to elbow with many civilians, cops, and firefighters not wearing masks. They know first hand the horrific effects of this novel virus that flourishes in crowds.

When Gregg Garfield left for a ski trip adventure in Italy at the end of February, he had no idea 10 days later he would begin his most difficult journey to date- fighting for his life. On March 5, Gregg became Patient Zero as he checked himself into St. Joseph's Providence Hospital in Burbank with serious Covid-19 symptoms.

Gregg was put on a ventilator for 31 days and was given a less than 1% chance of survival. He had four collapsed lungs, kidney failure, got MRSA, had a pulmonary embolism, and had sepsis all over his body...and yet he survived. His "Village" prayed for him, toasted him nightly with tequila- his favorite, meditated, danced, and supported him in unmeasurable ways. Sixty-four days after entering the hospital with EMTs wearing hazmat suits, he walked out holding his girlfriend, AJ’s, and his sister’s, Stephanie Garfield-Bruno’s arms.

The sustained lack of circulation to his fingers and toes caused them to turn black, similar to a frostbite injury.  He is scheduled for additional surgeries for amputation and will need more physical and occupational therapy. His lust for life, gratitude to be alive, and will to conquer any mountain make him a true walking hero who will eventually have bionic fingers.

In this episode, Gregg and AJ share the harrowing story of his miraculous survival and how Patient Zero became an iconic image of hope, not just for the incredible doctors and nurses who treated him, but for the other patients and their families dealing with this very unpredictable novel virus. Gregg and AJ are here today to educate and inspire, and I promise you will love their love story.

NOW is the Time to Explore and Live Your Best Life, with Jenn Dellwo

Jenn Dellwo is a writer, podcaster and storyteller, but is also a huge lover of nature and is always yearning to take on her next adventure, sometimes even at a moment’s notice.  She has great insight on why it’s so important to get outside and experience everything that mother nature has to offer NOW, before it’s too late and the time has passed you by.

On this episode, Jenn talks about her recent travels around Iceland in a camper van, exploring the mountains of northern Italy and her love for the American Southwest landscape and our National Parks.  We also discuss where she discovered the “Disney World of Nature” and also where she experienced the proudest moment of her life, which not surprisingly happened in a National Park.
