378 - Zombies, White Camps, and Murder: The Story of Lori Vallow

378 - Zombies, White Camps, and Murder: The Story of Lori Vallow

I know - this episode is a long one! I tried to cut as much as I could that didn't feel relevant to tell this tale. I really did! There's just so much juicy stuff. So many strange, STRANGE details. Lori evolved, over the course of her adult life, from a manipulative person who was also very religious, into a murderous, manipulative person who became, essentially, the co-leader of a cult when she met her fifth and final husband, Chad Daybell. Chad had, over many years as an LDS author, created a fictional, apocalyptic world that he then later said was actually a real world based on his many prophetic visions of the future. Visions he was able to have thanks largely to two near death experiences. In Chad's vision of the world, there are lightworkers and zombies - angels and demons - continually battling for supremacy as we accelerate quickly into the End Times. And he and Lori were to gather 144,000 of God's most faithful and lead them into battle. And along the way, spells must be cast, zombies must be slayed, and, well, it's all just so insane. Hope you find this episode's subject matter as captivating as I did!

341 - The Kirtland Cult Killings and Jeffrey Lundgren: 1 of 2

341 - The Kirtland Cult Killings and Jeffrey Lundgren: 1 of 2

The craziest cult story I had never heard of. Jeffrey Lundgren was a cult leader and a mass leader before being caught, imprisoned, and executed. What a wild ride he had before it all came to an end. Twisted sexual desires, doomsday predictions, and more.  Today I tell the first of two parts of this tale. Who was Jeffrey Lundgren? How did he twist RLDS/Community of Christ teachings to convince his followers that he was the prophet Joseph Smith preached of who would redeem Zion for the faithful?  After giving a refresher on the foundations of Mormonism, how the RLDS split off from the LDS, and explaining some key theological concepts Jeffrey would manipulate - we're off and running on a wild-ass, cult! cult! cult!  timeline...

315 - The MRTCG: One of the World's Deadliest Doomsday Cults

The name The Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God might not sound familiar, but in the world of cults, it should be. Only one cult in modern history has ever had more people die in its final act, the Peoples Temple's Jonestown Massacre.  778 people died in Uganda in early 2000 - murdered by cult leaders who had failed to correctly predict the day the world would end and the apocalypse would begin, on four different occasions. Today we explore what this cult was about - including the messages its leaders received from their preposterous "visions" of Mother Mary - and we also explore how and why this cult was able to flourish in Uganda in the 1990s. Decades of chaos had left many in the nation ready to receive proclamations of an impending apocalypse.

Don't Drink the Zombie Kool-Aid: The Doomsday Mother aka Lori Vallow Case Part Two

Don't Drink the Zombie Kool-Aid: The Doomsday Mother aka Lori Vallow Case Part Two

And, we are back with Part 2 of this ludicrous case. We do have an update and were going to include it, but it warranted having its own mini-sode, so look for that early next week along with some important announcements:)

Doomsday  Mother aka Lori Vallow, once a devoted mother and Mormon jumps the train to crazy town with her lover of many past lifetimes, Chad Daybell and they leave a trail of bodies scattered in thier wake.

This case is so berserk. Lori and Chad systematically wipe out the obstacles standing between them; justifying their actions as a divine mission from God to rid the world of "zombies."   Yes, zombies, they had a zombie hit list.

But, was Lori brainwashed by Chad's influence and his seeming cult in the making or did she act on her own carnal desires?  You decide.

Aum Shinrikyo is a Japanese doomsday cult founded by Shoko Asahara in 1987.

It carried out the deadly Tokyosubway sarin attack in 1995 killing 13 people and wounding thousands more.

Some reports suspected it to be at 5000 people.

Aum Shinrikyo was found to have been responsible for the Matsumoto sarin attack the previous year in 1994 by releasing the nerve agent in Matsumoto, killing seven people and wounding more than a hundred others.

As of 2016, Aum Shinrikyo continues to maintain facilities in Japan and a small group in Russia.

There are estimates as many as eighty individual murders committed by their members.

269 - Japan's Deadliest Doomsday Cult: Aum Shinrikyo

269 - Japan's Deadliest Doomsday Cult: Aum Shinrikyo

Aum Shinrikyo was a Japanese doomsday cult led by psychotic madman Shoko Asahara, a man who claimed to be Jesus who was nicknamed the Japanese Charles Manson. He was actually a much more dangerous cult leader than Manson was. He pulled tens of thousands into his dark insanity, instead of just a handful. He had thousands of followers willing to help him violently bring about the end times. Aum started in the 1980s as a small spiritual group based on tenets of Buddhism. And then he soon incorporated elements of Hinduism, Nostradamus doomsday prophecies, Christian apocalyptic prophecies and more - all woven into a message focused largely on bringing about Armageddon. And this cult would try and bring about Armageddon by carrying out large scale chemical warfare attacks in Japan, hoping to have Japan blame the US, and then kick off WW3. The story of this cult is wild - machine gun and chemical weapons manufacturing, strange rituals involving LSD, attempted nuclear bomb creation and acquisition, having dissident cult members executing, assassinating critics, and more.

    262 - The Jehovah's Witnesses: Doomsday Cult

    262 - The Jehovah's Witnesses: Doomsday Cult

I'm guessing you know of the Jehovah's Witnesses. You've heard of them. Maybe you've noticed their "Kingdom Halls." Maybe they've knocked on your door. But - do you really know anything about them? Before this week, I didn't. Now that I do, I will NEVER look at them the same way again. The Jehovah's may not live on a compound, but, in my opinion they are a dangerous doomsday cult. Their continual focus on impending Armageddon has hurt so, so many lives. And so has their "Two Witness Rule." The Governing Body of the Witnesses pressure congregations to not go to the police with criminal accusations, including rape and sexual abuse. Instead, Witnesses are told to take accusations to congregational elders who record the accusations confidentially. And elders are told that if two or more people didn't witness the crime occur, then it essentially didn't happen. These policies have led to the creation of what's believed to be the largest database of pedophiles ever - pedophiles the organization has provided a safe haven. Known predators have even been paired with future victims to go preach the "truth" door-to-door. The truth is, the Jehovah's Witnesses are an incredible unlikable organization. I lay out their history, their beliefs, and their most shameful policies on another Cult! Cult! Cult! edition of Timesuck.

100 - The Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God

100 - The Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God

Thank you for patiently waiting, my babes. This is the last solo episode for awhile!
Pardon my cold on this. <3

The Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God used fear of apocalyptic proportions to persuade its followers to give up all their earthly possessions and devote themselves to the cult. The abusive tactics are similar to many others we've discussed on the show before, and sadly, this didn't end any better than those. The majority of the Movement's followers would lose their lives to the homicidal tendencies of its leadership, being poisoned, bludgeoned, and trapped and a terrible fire, after one too many failed end of days predictions.

Dive with me down the cult rabbit hole, and Let's Get Dark.

211 - The Immanuel David Cult

211 - The Immanuel David Cult

The Immanuel David Cult! Not much has been written about Immanuel David compared to more notable cult leaders like Jim Jones or David Koresh - but he was just as delusional and, in his own way, just as destructive. Immanuel David was born in the late 1930s to seemingly normal parents - he had what was likely a great childhood - and then, not long after converting to Mormonism, he decided that he was the REAL prophet that should lead his new religion. After the LDS church excommunicated him, Immanuel David created his own church… and went off to live on a communal compound where a group of people, including his wife Rachel and their seven children, would worship him - not as God's prophet anymore - but as God in the flesh. In true cult leader fashion, he gave his followers biblical names and tricked them into giving him money while they all waited for the US government and the LDS faith to collapse, and for Immanuel to rise up out of the ashes and lead a new church. And then David's rein as cult leader came to end in 1978 in a very dramatic and horrifying way. This week we’ll also examine into some of the fringier aspects of Mormonism’s theological history, as some of these elements lead to the construction of David's cult. And we'll give a brief overview of a few other FLDS cults, on today's messianic edition of Timesuck.
