    Doppelgängers

    Doppelgängers
When I was 16 I met one of my sister’s male friends. We got along great, and I really looked forward to seeing him again. But when I did - his reaction was not what I expected. He was angry at me. He said that he saw me the week previous while I was working at a local coffee shop, but when he said hello I looked at him like he had three heads. He started to talk to me, but I ignored him completely. I was extremely rude…but the thing was…I wasn’t. I didn’t work at a coffee shop, and I didn’t even go to that area since the last time we met. I never ran into him at all. He didn’t believe me until my sister confirmed what I said. He was shocked. He apologized, and said the only explanation was that I had a doppelgänger. I laughed it off, but during the next few months more and more people approached me upset that I would not talk to them when they approached me. Each time they told me the situation, I had an alibi for the day that they supposedly ran into me. Then just as quickly as this started - it stopped. No more weird confrontations…my doppelgänger disappeared. You may think that this is unusual, but it actually is a lot more common that you think.

KA WORDCAST: Listen and Learn LESSON EIGHT

KA WORDCAST: Listen and Learn LESSON EIGHT

In today’s lesson, entitled Seeing Double, you will be listening to a passage about why two complete strangers can look nearly identical to each other. Listen carefully to the passage and then answer the questions that follow.  It’s always a good idea to take notes as you listen, but remember: don’t let your note-taking distract you from your listening. And be sure to listen to the Key Vocabulary bonus track.   This will help you improve your understanding of the passage itself and give your vocabulary a big boost.
