Advice From A 1st Round Parent | MLB Draft #8

Advice From A 1st Round Parent | MLB Draft #8

On this week’s episode, we’re honored to be joined by Todd Seigler, father of Anthony Seigler – a first-round draft pick with the New York Yankees. We get to hear from Todd on what the draft process was like from the perspective of family members and in working through these areas together as a family.

As a parent going through the draft process, it can feel like everybody is painting a rosy picture about how perfect your son’s game is – it can be hard to sift through all the feedback using data to separate out sales pitch from reality. There are also challenges in setting good boundaries to maintain family bonds and help to make intentional decisions about the long-term future that don’t rely solely on emotions or chasing shiny things.

Todd offers a lot of helpful insight into this process and throughout the episode, he covers topics such as:

    • Going through the draft process from scouting during senior year season to draft day
    • The potential of getting distracted by the wrong things that can seem like really good things
    • How to have good family conversations to set healthy boundaries
    • The importance of staying faithful and committed to your routines
    • Avoiding “Draft intoxication”
    • How they handled choosing the right people in their inner circle
    • What was a draft day like for a family
    • What the transition to pro has been like
    • Looking back, what things he wishes he would have known going through the process as a parent

Adley Rutschman on Going Amateur to Pro | MLB Draft #6

Adley Rutschman on Going Amateur to Pro | MLB Draft #6

On this week’s episode, Erik and Travis talk with Adley Rutschman, catcher for the Baltimore Orioles. Adley was selected by the Orioles as the first overall selection in the 2019 Major League Baseball draft with the highest signing bonus ever. He joins us this week to discuss his time playing in college for Oregon State University, going into the MLB draft last year and making the transition from amateur to pro.

Adley covers a wealth of topics in this episode including:

    - How to handle the public pressures of being a highly-ranked athlete

    - The important things to look at when choosing an agent

    - Utilizing time in college to hone in and build up skills

    - The mental development and other key contrasts that accompany going from college to pro

    - Walking through what draft meetings with scouts were like including some of the most unique questions he got

    - Sharing how he maintained good family dynamics despite the high-stress level that comes with the draft

    - What it was like on draft day

    - Mentally preparing for the back-and-forth of salary negotiations

    - Advice for players and their families as they’re about to enter the draft

Episode 107 - Weather Gone Wild

Episode 107 - Weather Gone Wild

Week 4 is in the books and Tom is loathe to say it but we have a greater idea about who these teams are, who we want to watch and who we almost certainly don't want to watch...

The weather played a massive part this weekend and there's a few big games that were disappointing as a result although the Detroit Lions remain the best team to watch in football.

    I Deserve This

    I Deserve This

The Gents had quite the gap between episodes, and they truly deserve what was coming to them. First, EstoBro breaks the ice with his lack of iced coffee while waiting for TV to get to the recording. Secondly, they both had to come clean about not producing an episode the week prior due to some technical difficulties (5:50). The Gents were truly not at fault for losing an episode, and they are truly human to admit their mistakes. They come clean by giving their official review of The Batman (8:40), and where they missed the mark on experiencing this movie in the theater rather than watching it in the luxury of their own homes. After doing some comic book appreciation, EstoBro cannot help himself in poking fun at Elon Musk for purchasing Twitter (21:55) and referring him to most likely becoming the real Bruce Wayne. All jokes aside, both EstoBro and TV had to throw some shade on this year's NFL Draft (31:30) being one of the most disappointing events for football in recent years. Dissecting the idea that this year's draft class was more strategy-based, EstoBro enables the argument on what is the better "draft day movie" between Jerry Maguire and Draft Day. EstoBro cannot let TV have all the fun talking NBA Playoffs, because Stanley Cup Playoffs have also gotten underway (44:50). The Gents first talk about the local hockey team with the Tampa Bay Lightning and their chances of going for three titles in a row, but it does not look like their chances are looking great after their first game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Still, TV cannot hesitate to still talk shop about basketball (50:00), which in turn explains the level of intellect the pair share on hockey. With the meme wars finally being initiated on the EstoBro TV Podcast, the Gents had to bring back their series of "I Hate My Genitals When..." after the announcement of TV moving on from the service industry (59:40). The topic comes up because the service industry provides more than it should sometimes, which in turn could leave a headache for any server or bartender. Too many opportunities have presented themselves to the hosts of the show, and they want to hear similar stories from their listeners on the relative topic. If you would like to submit your IHMGW story to the podcast, send it to the following email address: estobrotvpod@gmail.com. The Gents are ready to kick off their birthday season, feel free to also send them something nice along the way to the same address.

    NFL Draft Football Ferocity 2021!

    NFL Draft Football Ferocity 2021!
Johnny Kielbasa and Mishy explore the nooks and crannies of the 2021 NFL Draft in a manner you won't hear from any of the other talking meatheads on the tv shows. As fans of the Browns and Jets, our men are highly qualified in watching arrogant general managers make poor decision and after poor decision because they think they are the smartest dude in the room. Mishy makes some bold predictions, Johnny wishes defeat upon everyone who passes on Justin Fields (except Jacksonville), and for once does not really care who the Browns pick in the first round. Mishy, on the other hand, laments yet another Jets regime dooming the team and fandom to five more years of sub-mediocrity. Enjoy the prognostication, everyone, and let's hope your team drafts the right players! Binge away on The Sausage Hut Podcast! The vast majority of our podcasts are evergreen/untopical.
