Mickey Drexler and Sweet Potatoes—a Classic Combination?! - Rerun!

Mickey Drexler and Sweet Potatoes—a Classic Combination?! - Rerun!

Talk about thrilling: We have a bonafide icon on today’s ep. We’re talking to Mickey Drexler—who spearheaded Gap and J.Crew in their heydays and is now helping make magic happen at Alex Mill—about how he works and just plain does his days. But first: sweet potatoes, which aren’t boring, ok?

    The linkage:

Three recipes for exciting sweet potatoes! Ones loaded with lentils, citrus, and feta, ones topped with tahini butter, and ones baked into a (paleo) bread. And one non-recipe: almond butter and seasoned rice vinegar mixed into a sauce and topped with furikake.

Mickey Drexler’s latest retail undertaking (led by his son, Alex Drexler!) is Alex Mill. We love it. Erica wears these and this all the time, Claire can often be spotted in this and this, and just about everybody sweats these.

When it comes to meditating, Mickey is into Hamsa and Transcendental Meditation.

A home-goods business Mickey likes: Snowe.

Wow, do we get psyched about voicemails: 833-632-5463!

    Yay!

If you didn’t catch our first chat with Mickey Drexler, you can do that right over here.

Alex Mill is Mickey’s latest undertaking with his son...and we have been talking about too much on this podcast, we’re aware.

    Don't Don't Fear the Filter

Scott Alexander of SlateStarCodex recently declared that "nobody ever really believed [that Fermi's Paradox] was a problem. I not only believed it was a problem I still believe it's a problem, and I think everyone else should as well. If you're one of those who don't think it is, then this episode is designed to change your mind.

Michael Jordan (AND Hakeem) Drafted By The Rockets!

Michael Jordan (AND Hakeem) Drafted By The Rockets!

What if the Houston Rockets not only drafted Michael Jordan, but also kept Hakeem Olajuwon AND picked up Clyde Drexler as well? It sounds unbelievable, but Hakeem in his own book stated that on draft night, the Blazers offered Drexler and the number 2 pick in the 84 draft for Ralph Sampson, giving the opportunity for the Rockets to build the greatest trio in league history. How differently would this have move shaped the NBA? Episode 83 of the podcast goes right in!

John Starks: New York Knicks Legend | The G.O.A.T. Show 025

John Starks: New York Knicks Legend | The G.O.A.T. Show 025

Let’s be clear, growing up… John Starks was my favorite player.  I knew all his stats, all his moves, his history, and his rivals.  I chose #3 for all my jerseys while playing sports and even brought in his basketball card to the barbershop so the barber can cut my hair just like his.

It wasn’t just because he was an incredible player.  He was the HEART of the team. The city loved him and when he got hot, he got HOT!

He’d be asked to guard the toughest players in history, such as Reggie Miller, Clyde Drexler, and Michael Jordan.  And he pretty much got each of those guys riled up at one point or another.

Whether you’re an athlete, a business person, or an employee… learning how to play/work with passion and become the heart of your team and the energy that fuels everyone is invaluable.

Still, to this day, I’ve never seen anyone work like Starks did. I’ve never seen anyone care so much about the city and overcoming the odds.  And in this interview, we cover it all…

As well as a friendly game of H.O.R.S.E…. I mean G.O.A.T.S.
