Episode 273 - Brian Boecker, "Finding Life: Letting Go and Embracing the Father's Love"

"I think sometimes that feels like this journey that we're on is that sometimes God asks us to let go of something, not for the sake of because that thing is bad, but he's like, there's something more that is even deeper, what you long for and desire in that." - Brian Boecker

In this episode of Restoring the Soul, we dive into a fascinating conversation between Michael and Brian Boecker. Brian specializes in intensive counseling, particularly with missionaries, expatriates, and individuals who have lived abroad.

Today's episode takes us on a deep exploration of the concept of finding one's life by losing it. Drawing inspiration from a passage in the Gospel of Luke, Michael and Brian debunk common misunderstandings about dying to self and losing oneself. Particularly in the context of addiction, many individuals mistakenly believe that dying to self means suppressing their own needs and desires, leading to feelings of worthlessness and a loss of self-value.

Michael and Brian uncover the truth behind this misconception, revealing that unwanted behavior often stems from a deep desire that needs attention. They discuss how people often attach their desires to things they think will fulfill them, only to find that these attachments fall short. Through letting go of these attachments, one's true desire can be fully awakened.

So get ready to be challenged and inspired as we delve into this thought-provoking conversation about finding life and discovering our true selves.

Believer to Follower (Episode 3) - Say Less, Do More

Believer to Follower (Episode 3) - Say Less, Do More

As we continue on the path towards spiritual growth we've previously discovered many truths.  In episode three we discuss the necessity of saying less so we can become better hearers and doers of God's Word.  Our lives as followers of Christ is a daily exchange of our old sin nature for God's holy nature, but we also must sacrifice our old ways if we are to live this new life in Christ.  You ready for this?  Let's go...

No compromise with the sinful practices of worldly culture

No compromise with the sinful practices of worldly culture

The vigilance for righteousness that God expects of us amidst the corruption around us is real, challenging, and unwavering.

The story of Phinehas killing an Israelite man and a Midianite woman in Numbers 25 is remembered because he unhesitatingly did a difficult thing that God required, and in so doing, saved the rest of the assembly. In his vigilance for righteousness, he saw the iniquity of their combined idolatry and took immediate action.

This story is a metaphor for us today. The example is extreme because God wants to make sure we understand how serious it is for us to remain in blatant disobedience to his purposes. In our modern permissiveness, we excuse all types of aberrant behavior as being acceptable based on the fact that the biblical culture was distant and removed from our current relativistic and inclusive morality today. However, while the culture may indeed be distant, the moral underpinnings that anchored the ancient Israelites should be the exact same foundation we build upon today. When we shy away from our duty to not compromise with the surrounding culture, it can affect us in ways that will continue to erode spiritual stability throughout the believing community.

How are we to overcome these varieties of challenges to the purity of the kingdom message?

The good news is that the same Spirit which empowered Yeshua and the early disciples still lives within the regenerated lives of believers today. As Paul wrote in Romans 8, "if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live." It is the power of the Spirit of God that provides the ability to overcome sinful practices of whatever culture among which we find ourselves.

Collectively, we need to mimic the no-compromise mentality of a Phinehas, not waiting, but taking immediate and decisive action on the habits and practices in our lives that are offensive to a holy God.

With this one key everything else begins to come into intense clarity and focus... This is we are all being brought to around the world by the Holy Spirit in the end of this end of days.
