John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (NIV)

Luke 23:46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. (NIV)

Ephesians 2:4-5 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (NLT)

    1. Jesus bounced back to life so you can have life

    1. Real Life comes only through Christ:

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (NIV)

John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; (NIV)

1 John 5:12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. (NIV)

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (NLT)

    2. New life comes only through Christ:

Acts 5:20   “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.” (NIV)

Colossians 2:12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. (NLT)

    2. Jesus bounced back to life so you can have life in the Spirit

Romans 8:11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. (NLT)

Romans 8:1–2 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2  And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. (NLT)

John 6:63   The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.  (NIV)

    3.  Jesus bounced back to life so you can have eternal life

1 John 5:11–12 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12  Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. (NIV)

John 5:40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life. (NIV)

    It is Finished

    It is Finished

Christ made seven statements on the cross. His Sixth statement on the cross is what we shall be looking at this morning. This sixth statement was observed by H.L. Wilmington to be one word in the original Greek -tetelestai. Tetelastai means “it was finished and as a result it is forever done.”

The phrase "it is finished" is also “the kind a painter or sculptor would use after putting finishing touches to the vivid landscape or the marble bust; he would then stand back a few feet to admire the masterpiece, and seeing in it nothing that calls for correction or improvement, would exclaim fondly and with delight, Tetelestai! Tetelestai!”

It is important to note that Jesus said- “It is finished” and not ‘I am finished.’ This was more of a statement of accomplishment rather than one of regret and sorrow. “Christ completed all that was necessary in order to accomplish the plan of redemption.”

The Greek word translated finish here is teleo. It means the following viz. to accomplish, to fill up, to fulfill, to make an end, to pay, to perform, to expire.

Specifically, the following got finished that day when Jesus died for you and me on the cross:

    1. It is finished with Sin and the sinful nature - Isa. 53:6-8; 2 Cor. 5:21; Rom. 6:14.

    • Sin has remained man’s greatest enemy since Adam.

    • It was sin that caused the separation between man and God.

    • It is true God loves the sinner but detests his sinful nature and lifestyle.

    • Sin is a destroyer. It destroys everything it touches, including the sinner. It has the capacity to wreck a man and damn his soul  in eternity.

    • Sin is spiritual. This explains why no man, regardless of size, color, status, education, etc., has been able to defeat it with human strength.

    • Adam brought sin into the world, but Jesus brought salvation and righteousness.

    • The main reason why Jesus died the cruel death on the cross was to destroy sin and its consequences.

    • Thank God for Jesus Christ. What Noah, the Patriarchs, the Prophets, etc could not do, God had to come Himself in human form to do, in the likeness of His Son Jesus Christ.

    • Christ paid the full price for our redemption from the slave market of sin with His life. It is therefore finished with Mr Sin and its consequences.

    • Sin does not have dominion again over all who have repented and surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ.

    2. It is finished with curses - Galatians 3:13.

    • The curse is one of the consequences of sin.

    • God placed a curse on Adam, Eve and the Serpent for disobeying His instruction. Every human being is under this same curse until such turns to Christ.

    • Other curses - be it inherited, generational, family, personal, etc., were taken care of by Jesus Christ on the cross.

    • It is finished with all the curses in our lives in Jesus' Name.

    • We declare broken every curse you may be still carrying right now in Jesus Name.

    3. It is finished with sickness and diseases - Isa. 53:4-5.

    • Another consequence of sin is sickness and disease.

    • Sickness was not part of the first creation in Genesis.

    • It was sin that opened the door for sickness and disease.

    • Jesus however came, and on the cross declared an end to every sickness & disease.

    • It’s already finished with every sickness and disease in your life.
    • Therefore refuse to carry it anymore.
    • It is finished with sickness and diseases. Alleluia.
    • It is finished with Corona virus since over 3000 years ago!
    • Corona virus and every sickness and disease that comes against any child of God is actually Dead On Arrival.
    • Refuse to accept nonsense! Get up and walk in Jesus Name.

Born Again to a Living Hope: the Hope of the Resurrection

Born Again to a Living Hope: the Hope of the Resurrection
This morning is a most glorious day! The day in which we celebrate the greatest miracle in the whole of human history, the physical, bodily resurrection of Jesus! The resurrection of Jesus is central to and foundational for the Christian faith. Without the reality of the resurrection, we might as well leave now and go get pancakes! However, if indeed the resurrection of Jesus is a reality, then what the Bible declares is most significant and worthy of our attention. If Jesus rose from the dead, then this opens us to a world of hope! For the One that defeated death and the grave, is the One who gives this same hope to those that come to Him!
