In today’s Travel Gluten-free Podcast, we are joined by Kyle Dine, the founder, and creator of Equal Eats Cards. Kyle has created one of the most important tools for the gluten free traveler or anyone with food allergies who eat out, especially when you’re traveling to another country.
Growing Up with Multiple Food Allergies
Kyle grew up with multiple food allergies since he was a baby. His allergies include peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, and shellfish. In addition, his wife has Celiac disease, so their kitchen is color coded, and they each have their own appliances to prepare food at home.
Creating Equal Eats Cards
Seeing a need for a professionally translated allergen card that would be taken seriously by wait for staff and others in the food industry, Kyle went on to survey over 2000 people with food allergies along with 60 professionals in the healthcare industry to find out what they were looking for when it came to an allergy translation card. He repeatedly found that the card needed to be plastic, have allergen information, and need to list what to avoid and what precautions to take when making food for those of us with dietary restrictions.
