    Interview with Dez Money

    Interview with Dez Money
We had the pleasure of interviewing Dez Money over Zoom video!

Dez Money is a singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist from Los Angeles, CA. He was raised in a musical family as the son of multi-platinum recording artist, Eddie Money. Dez spent a good part of his life on tour with his family opening up the shows and playing guitar in the Eddie Money band. Carrying on his father’s legacy, Dez released a new song and lyric video for “Lost".

“Lost” tells the story of someone stranded on a desert island. The phrase repeats throughout the song “is there anybody out there?” as that person searches for someone to connect with while they are in isolation. “Lost” invites the listener into the mind of a castaway. “Is there anybody listening? Did you get the message? Sending SOS’s all across the way”. The song presents itself as a message in a bottle from a desert island,” explains Money.

“Lost” is the first taste of what’s to come from Money. On his upcoming album, he aims to show his versatility as an artist. In the studio, he made it a goal to produce different types of songs than what he had done before. Each of the new tracks has its own vibe, yet they all complement each other. The song “Lost” invites the listener into his new world.

Dez serves as the singer-songwriter, producer, and plays all the instruments featured in his music. In his latest body of work, he delivers a pure sound with intimate, heartfelt lyrics and an alluring honesty. “Lost” will be followed up with more releases this spring and a new album coming later this summer.

Dez has been making his mark and garnering attention for a while with his debut album, Take Me Down which was released in 2015, followed by his sophomore album, Blue in 2020. In 2018, he’s featured in the AXS TV reality series “Real Money,” which chronicled the family’s life at home and on tour as well as the journey they took with Eddie’s health struggles.

84 – Jon Gabrus (High And Mighty, Action Boyz, The Gino Lombardo Show)

84 – Jon Gabrus (High And Mighty, Action Boyz, The Gino Lombardo Show)

We broke format a little this week to talk all things music with a guest who has no musical experience of his own. Jon Gabrus is an actor (Guy Code, Younger, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), comedian and veteran podcaster. Though he's not a musician by trade, the host of High And Mighty, Action Boyz and The Gino Lombardo Show has a wealth of musical memories and no shortage of great stories about concerts he's attended through the years.

Prior to the start of Season 2 of The Gino Lombardo Show, Gabrus spoke with My First Band host/longtime "shithead" Tyler Maas about his various podcasts and how he's holding up during the nightmare that is 2020. Of course, the conversation eventually turned to music, as Gabrus talked about what he's listening to now, his love of Sylvan Esso, the music scene in his native Long Island, some of the first shows he attended, blowing all the money he made in his 20s on concerts in New York, almost getting kicked out of a Radiohead show, musical tropes in action movies and so much more. Along the way, Gabrus also discussed Billy Joel and Eddie Money while Maas fought the urge to make a bunch of High And Mighty callbacks.

My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering and Lakefront Brewery. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and wherever else you get podcasts. Music used in this show comes courtesy of Devils Teeth ("The Junction Street Eight Tigers") and Sylvan Esso ("Dreamy Bruises").

    Ep. 157: Char-Colgate & Eddie Money Tribute

    Ep. 157: Char-Colgate & Eddie Money Tribute
It's a Mix Tape Mafia and Cheesesteak & Chowder crossover episode with our Eddie Money (RIP) tribute and an extended "New Music Monday". We take some issue and theorize the genesis of the new Charcoal toothpaste trend that's sweeping the shelves. And with the recent discovery of Celebrity Amazon Shops, we start planning the items for the ultimate C&C Amazon shop. And speaking of Amazon, Alexa Quivers 2.0 makers her return to the studio, sitting in the producer's chair and offering zero help...

    47: Steve Hackett

    47: Steve Hackett

We pay tribute to Eddie Money in the intro, recorded on Friday the 13th. Then it's on to a chat with Steve Hackett in which he talks about his coming tour of the US and gives us his views on the potential of a Genesis reunion.  Will we see one? He doesn't say no...

We were too late to include news of the passing of Ric Ocasek, but we want to extend our condolences to everyone his life and music touched.

Thanks as always to Anastasia Vishnevsky for our theme music and as always, please consider subscribing to our podcast through your favorite app. If you like what you hear, please consider giving us a favorable rating AND subscribing at iTunes, Spotify, the iHeartRadio app or wherever you’re listening to us. James Hunting, West Arkeen/David Lee Roth/Roger Daltrey - Ep. 66

James Hunting, West Arkeen/David Lee Roth/Roger Daltrey - Ep. 66
Our special co-host this episode and making his return to the AFD Show is author and former LA Guns Manager, Mr. Raz Cue. In our "Shotgun News" segment, Raz and Brando discuss the last episode with Alan Niven and GNR kicking off their European tour by covering Velvet Revolver for the first time!

Then joining the conversation is our guest for this episode, veteran bassist James Hunting. James has worked with Eddie Money, David Lee Roth, Roger Daltrey, and many others. For this chat we focus on his work with the late West Arkeen and their band The Outpatience. West co-wrote several songs with Guns N' Roses and would have many of the GNR guys play on his 1996 album, including the last known studio track to have both Axl Rose and Slash on it. James also opens up about losing West; being in the house and finding him unresponsive.

This only scratches the surface of the candid stories that both James Hunting and Raz Cue share on episode 66. Please enjoy and follow/subscribe/leave a review!
