BARRON TRUMP, BOY DETECTIVE with SARAH WEINMAN

BARRON TRUMP, BOY DETECTIVE with SARAH WEINMAN

The game is afoot! The dice are cast! The candles are in the wind! Other detective-y things!

Look, there's a lot of questions right now. Like: What is Mueller up to? Is there anyone in the Trump family not deeply dedicated to criming? Who can lie more, Michael Cohen or Paul Manafort? What's a convenient way to get a single potato mailed to my house?

You have questions? WELL WE HAVE ANSWERS.

This week on Says Who, Maureen and Dan pull in an ACTUAL MYSTERY EXPERT to help us crack this case wide open. That's right, we're joined by Sarah Weinman who is ACTUALLY KNOWN AS "THE CRIME LADY" to help us look at our suspects, consider the motives, and SOLVE THIS SO COMPLETELY THAT YOU WILL BE LIKE MUELLER WHO?

    Or something.

    Probably.

I mean, we're not making any promises.

But like the great Hercule Poirot said: One must seek the truth within--not without

HOPE OR GAS? with IMANI GANDY

HOPE OR GAS? with IMANI GANDY

Hey, did you bring a surfboard? Because we're still on a BLUE WAVE.

When Dan and Maureen recorded last week, it was right on the high of the election of the night before. No sooner had they left the basement/closet, then all heck broke loose. Trump did a weird, weird press event and then stormed into the depths of the castle to boot Jeff Sessions from the parapet. And while we all enjoy the sight of a flying Jeff Sessions, we also had to wonder: WITHER MUELLER? And what do these rolling election results mean?

Obviously, Dan and Maureen don't know anything. Time for an expert! Today's guest, Imani Gandy, is a lawyer and co-host of the podcast Boom! Lawyered! and she is HOPEFUL! Or gassy. We are not sure anymore. We think it is hope but it has been a while. Her conversation is like a REFRESHING SWIM IN A LOVELY SEA. The kind of place you'd find a BLUE WAVE. Tune in for some liquid sunshine, legal style!

    Surf's up, SaysWhovia.

    14 Bill Cobbs

    14 Bill Cobbs

A recent interview between Michigan Gubernatorial Candidate Bill Cobbs and Josh about criminal justice reform in Michigan.

If you are not familiar with what is going on with water in Michigan. The State approved Nestle's new contract to remove even more water from the Great Lakes, Flint had State supplied water suspended while the Flint school's were and are still testing high for lead and we discussed Detroit's ongoing water crisis.

The crisis in public schools in Michigan accelerated after the onset of the so-called "school choice" reforms in Michigan.

Abandoned houses and how to deal with them is a huge issue in Detroit.

Michigan is one of five states in America that has not raised the age to ensure that 17-year-olds are not presumptively tried as adults. I am a volunteer at MCCD who are working to Raise the Age in Michigan.

Michigan passed a number of mental health reforms recently, including diversion programs, but mental health care inside our jails and prisons still lags far behind.

The Suboxone issue and the resulting changes in the mail policies at the Michigan Department of Correction have caused massive problems with families of inmates. The new mail policy is complicated and hard to comply with.

Cash bail is a pretty large problem all over the United States. Tens of thousands of people are arrested in America every day and every one of them will likely stay in jail unless they can afford to pay bail. Jails, particularly certain jails in Michigan, are very dangerous.

Video Visitation has been replacing in-person visits all over the country, we are experiencing this problem, for instance, at the Washtenaw County jail which no longer allows in-person visits. It is important to remember that the service provider incentivizes jails to shut down in-person visits by ensuring that jails get a cut of any profits from video visits.

Criminal justice fines & fees can be excessive and are applied liberally to virtually every person in jail or prison in Michigan.

Thanks again to Mr. Cobbs for such an open and fascinating discussion about the need for criminal justice reform in Michigan.

Jim Harper – SOS Candidate; Elections & Census

Jim Harper – SOS Candidate; Elections & Census
9 April 2018 – Democrats are finally learning that Secretaries of State are more critical than even governors in state elections so we are lucky to have elections expert and Indiana State Democratic SOS candidate, Jim Harper for the interview. Jim is a strong candidate for Indiana and the videos on his FB page reinforce why he is a great choice both for progressive and moderate Democrats. Will is talking about elections and the fall-out in Catalonia. The Germans are standing-up for the Catalans and the UK may be as well. We’ll see. Meanwhile, Russia continues to play in that sandbox exclusively to incite chaos. I give some background on the decennial Census to set it in some context for the current national conversation around the re-inclusion of the citizenship question. Just as an FYI – there is an even bigger problem with the 2020 Census…funding. No kidding. The GOP is using funding to impair the Census and suppress votes. There simply is no line they will not cross. At the top of the show I discuss the Netroots Radio plan of action in case Robert Mueller is fired. Additionally, I recommend that everyone sign-up with MoveOn.org to register for notification of a local action in your area. Until next week, carrots! – Arliss

The Good, the Strange & the Stock Market

The Good, the Strange & the Stock Market
12 February 2018 – We’re BACK!!! At least, we are back on the air. I’m still traveling so I’ll keep this really short. At the top of the show Will emphasizes the importance of continuing to work toward victory in November and not making the mistake of thinking we are already over the finish line. I get into the latest in the Brexit talks with the EU insisting that Northern Ireland remain within the common market. In his main block Will talks about the shifting sands within the German government and why this may be a generally hopeful sign. In my block I try to explain what the hell is going on in the stock market and why it is in no way a reflection of what is happening in the real economy. Now, I must hop. Cheers! – Arliss

VA-09 candidate Justin Santopietro on Appalachia's future

VA-09 candidate Justin Santopietro on Appalachia's future
12/11/2017 - This week we were happy to welcome VA-09 Democratic Primary candidate Justin Santopietro (@JS4VA) to the show to discuss his ideas for Southwest Virginia and the country as a whole. At the top of the show we discussed the Hurricane, and in Will's section, we discussed Brexit, or did our best to do so considering how many developments have occurred in the past few weeks. Will discussed the Brexit situation, which seems like it has no workable solutions. At least, no solutions that won't lead to the destabilization of May's government. It doesn't seem possible to satisfy the various factions of the Tory party while also keeping the DUP on board. May's government is having some internal conflicts and scandals that are also threatening to bring her down, and the recent agreement she reached with the DUP doesn't seem like it actually fixes any of these problems. Our discussion with Justin Santopietro was broad ranging. Justin told us that environmental issues really are bread and butter issues, and the solutions to many of the problems we face can employ a lot of Americans in rural spaces. We discussed the necessity to bring real change to Appalachia, the Virginia 9th Districts history in support of things like the civil rights act, and the potential to rebuild our progressive coalition to include Appalachians once again.  We talked about how to speak to folks in Appalachia, and talked about the hope we have for the future of our rural spaces. Happy Holidays everyone! -Will
