A Look at Elevation Church's Green Room Culture

A Look at Elevation Church's Green Room Culture
Have you ever wondered what the green room culture is like at churches like Elevation Church?

The green room is more than just a backstage area. It’s a space where a deeper level of community is formed.

Here we talk with Chris Brown about all things green room with Elevation Worship. Things like snacks, sitting in the church service together as a team, saying hey to people in the lobby, etc.

There are a lot of different opinions surrounding how the church green room should be approached.

Today’s conversation with Chris helps us look at the topic from a higher vantage point to help us determine what’s best for our individual communities.

Leading the Room Well with Anabeth Morgan - LEADING BETTER WORSHIP SERIES

Leading the Room Well with Anabeth Morgan - LEADING BETTER WORSHIP SERIES

In the first episode of our Leading Better Worship series, Anabeth Morgan shares about her practice of seeking the Lord for His invitation in day-to-day life, how to balance between leading songs and facilitating ministry moments, and tailoring a set list to meet the needs of the room you’re in. Anabeth and Adam also talk about the importance of leaders sharing their humanity, and how to incorporate and work in tandem with our personality, temperament and insecurities in leadership.

Anabeth Morgan is a worship leader, songwriter and one of the staff pastors at the Mile High Vineyard neighborhood churches since 2011.  She has been an integral part of Vineyard Worship as a leader, artist and writer, serving at Vineyard churches in Houston, Columbus, and Kansas City. Anabeth is deeply passionate about God’s presence and loves to lean into the Spirit of God in worship and prayer. Her ability to listen to the Holy Spirit, whether leading worship or groups of people, has given God the opportunity to do wonderful things in people’s lives.

She loves sharing her intimate faith in God with others, enjoys being hospitable, and is always sensitive to the people and environment around her.  Anabeth has appeared on many Vineyard albums such as Cultivation Generation: Servant Wide Awake and My Foundation; Vineyard National Conference: I Love Your Presence and Wonderful. In December 2017 she finished writing and recording her first studio album A Place Your Glory Dwells. Recently, she has had songs You Meet Me Here and Heaven’s Work released through Vineyard Worship and has published other worship songs in collaboration with other songwriters. She was married to Kyle in 2003 and they have two amazing children, Jovie and Miles.

*More About This Episode* Interview: Creative Director Steven Lester Talks About Multi Camera Directing

Steve Lester is a creative director based in Nashville, Tennessee producing multi-cam events for churches including Elevation Worship, Hillsong Worship, Jesus Culture, and for musical artists including Kari Jobe, Chris Tomlin, Tasha Cobbs and more. Here are some quick takeaways from today’s interview:

    • The biggest problem Steve sees with multi cam directors with a church is that they don’t value volunteers enough.
    • He encourages directors to value volunteers and invest in the gift. Steward the people to build a solid team. Create spaces for people to grow and do what they’re really good at.
    • He sees the role of a director similar to “customer service” in the way of determining the pastor and ministry’s vision and then determining “How can I bring my expertise and my art in to serve you well?”
    • Concerning using dollies and steadicams, etc., Steven says, “Don’t let the ‘toys’ influence the way your creativity thinks. If it doesn’t serve the vision, it’s useless… I want the end user to experience God through what I’m showing them.”
    • For pastors who don’t have people to run cameras, Steve encourages them to find a 16-year old, find the volunteers who are eager to learn. They may not be good at first, but it’s better than just capturing a service with a wide shot. They will get better.
    • He encourages his camera operators to be very aware of what God’s doing in the room. Don’t just live in your viewfinder; look to your left, look to your right. Have a situational awareness to capture what’s happening around you.
    • Steven’s prayer as a multi cam director leading a church media team: “Open our eyes to what you’re seeing, God, and help us capture it.”
