162 - Heat Of The Moment

162 - Heat Of The Moment
Seth and Marc are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to Asia's Heat Of The Moment. Seth thinks this song is a beautiful song about a man who made a mistake and is baring his soul for the world to see. Marc thinks it's a guy who is trying to convince a woman who was hurt by him messing up by focusing on when things were good and then by manipulating with scare tactics. Was anyone swayed and what do you think?

Ep. 207: Acid Rock n' Proto Metal from the Crypt - Vol. V

Ep. 207: Acid Rock n' Proto Metal from the Crypt - Vol. V

This week is the fifth volume of our deep dive into the trippy and groovy beginnings of the heavy stuff! Share a tab and join your favorite rock n’ roll grave robbers as they dig deep into the 60s & 70s Acid Rock n’ Proto Metal crypt to unearth some obscure bands that helped influence and mold what would become known as Heavy Metal.

What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Well, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This particular episode is planted firmly in the: LOST category, as all of these recordings occurred between 1969 – 1973. As always, our hope is that we turn you on to something new in a genre and decade that you may have thought you already knew everything there was to know.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Fuse - “Show Me” from Fuse (1970)
    2. Stray Dog - “Crazy” from Stray Dog (1973)
    3. Taste - “Blister On The Moon” from Taste (1969)
    4. White Witch - “Aunti Christy / Harlow” from A Spiritual Greeting (1973)
    5. Incredible Hog - “Wreck My Soul” from Volume 1 (1973)
    6. Mariani - “Searching For A New Dimension” from Perpetuum Mobile (1970)

ELP Podcast Series- Funds Series- Investment Funds & Fund Regulations

We are happy to announce the launch of a new podcast series on Investment Funds and Fund Regulations. In this podcast series, Vinod Joseph (Partner) and Paridhi Jain (Associate) will explore the intricacies of Investment Funds and Fund Regulations.

In the first podcast, Vinod and Paridhi shed light on SEBI's and IFSCA’s classification of AIFs into distinct categories, offering valuable insights into the regulatory reasoning behind this categorization. While the IFSCA's fund categorization mirrors SEBI's to some extent, it is essential to recognize the significant differences between them. In this engaging podcast, we delve into these variations, assuming that our audience possesses a foundational understanding of Funds and Indian regulations governing them.

    Ep. 156: Floydian Slips

    Ep. 156: Floydian Slips

It’s time again to set the controls for the heart of the sun and celebrate our co-host: Robert Harrison’s birthday! Space out with us as we absorb a collection of songs that evoke the essence and vibes of his favorite band: Pink Floyd. While not obscure at all (they have 2 albums that are diamonds!), we shine on with snippets of similar sounds and themes by somewhat more modern bands from the 90s until today.

What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is usually forced to test his endurance, but this week is all about songs firmly in his big bang zone. Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, even with this collection of great dance songs sounding similar to one of the biggest selling rock acts of all time.

    Songs this week include:

    1. The McBroom Sisters – “What Do You Want From Me”from Black Floyd(2020)
    2. Porcupine Tree – “The Jokes On You” from Up The Down Stair (1993)
    3. King Buffalo – “Mammoth” from Regenerator (2022)
    4. RPWL – “Masters Of War” from The RPWL Experience (2008)
    5. Thee Oh Sees – “Carrion Crawler” from Carrion Crawler / The Dream (2011)
    6. North Atlantic Oscillation – “Ceiling Poem” from Grappling Hooks (2010)
    7. Anathema – “Your Possible Pasts / Goodbye Cruel World” from Alternative 4 (1998)

Album Artwork... in which Nick and Charles stay on topic

Much of the music we discuss has a strong visual component. This is because popular music from the 60s and and 70s (and into the 80s) was primarily released on LPs, which had large covers, which came to act as canvases on which some rather stunning art was made.

The Peter Gunn Theme From Start to Finish

The Peter Gunn Theme From Start to Finish

We walk through the history of the Peter Gunn TV theme from its origin in 1958 to its influence on the surf music scene to a massive resurgence in the 1980s. We travel through time with Henri Mancini, Sara Vaughn, Duane Eddy, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and many more as we look at how each artist changed or added to the concept of the coolest TV theme to ever grace the boob tube.

Music from Peter Gunn became the number one album in the country on Billboard magazine's charts and stayed there for 10 weeks, remaining charted for 117 weeks in all.

Its status as a standard in any upstarts' repertoire carried it through the rehearsal holes of the world. Somebody somewhere would always don its instant cool, no matter whether honest or bootleg.

Emerson Lake and Palmer... 50th anniversary of Tarkus!!

Emerson Lake and Palmer... 50th anniversary of Tarkus!!

An oft forgotten prog rock band, ELP possessed more talent in their trio than most bands can muster in a quartet. Today, we look back at Tarkus on the 50th anniversary of its release, along with Brain Salad Surgery, perhaps ELP's most renowned album.
