14 - How to Pivot from a Pink Slip with Jennifer Greene

For most people, receiving a "pink slip" would be devastating news but Jennifer Greene and her husband used as a launching pad for following their hearts.   Listen in as host Catryn Becker chats with Jennifer about her journey from anti-human trafficking into real estate flipping, investing, and coaching.  It is quite the wild ride!

Additionally, Cat and Jen discuss the importance of creating firm boundaries, establishing guiding core values, and how to not let others determine your worth. Jen brings an interesting take on how she views the interview process, with keeping in my mind how she hires to protect her brand.  She shares how to see past people who are just really good at interviewing. We also share stories of being mothers and how we work differently now to balance family life.

    About Jennifer Greene

Ever since Jen can remember, she has always had a passion for helping people.  Jen has a unique capability to strategize ways out of complicated real estate situations, such as probate, divorce, eviction, and she specializes in foreclosures.  Having faced foreclosure with her husband, Dan, she spent a long time educating herself and others on how to avoid foreclosure. Jen has built many solid relationships with attorneys throughout the Twin Cities and comes highly recommended to solve complex real estate situations.  In her spare time, you will find Jen traveling, boating, playing volleyball, and spending time with her husband and two sons at their cabin. Jen also serves as the Vice Chair on the Board of Directors for the Sexual Violence Center in Minneapolis.

52 - Dr. Samuel Parkison on Thinking Christianly, Abortion, Empathy, and Dealing with Sinful Desires

Dr. Samuel G. Parkison is Associate Director of Theological Studies and Director of the Abu Dhabi Extension Site at Gulf Theological Seminary in the United Arab Emirates, where he lives with his wife (Shannon) and their three sons (Jonah, Henry, and Lewis).

Before coming to GTS, Samuel was Assistant Professor of Christian Studies at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Pastor of Teaching and Liturgy at Emmaus Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Samuel writes and researches on a broad range of topics, including Trinitarianism, Christology, soteriology, aesthetics, and philosophy of religion, as well as many issues pertaining to cultural engagement and ethics. He is the author of Revelation and Response and Irresistible Beauty.

In this episode Sam and I discuss his most recent book, Thinking Christianly. We dive into several chapters related to abortion and desire. We also discuss Carl F.H. Henry and empathy. Should we empathize with people who want to sin? Should Christians be whole-life pro-life? How are Christians to think about abortion today? What is the role of desire and confession in the Christian life? When does a desire become sinful?

    Empathy is Not Coddling

    Empathy is Not Coddling

Sometimes considered weakness or coddling, empathy is often misunderstood. We may not think we need empathy, and we may underestimate its value in our relationships. Yet empathy is a major key to our growth, our intimacy with Christ,  and our ministry with others.

In this episode of Soul Talks, Bill and Kristi unpack empathy and the role it plays in relationships. Tune in to see how, as you receive the empathy the Lord has for you, there is healing and grace. Then, you can do the same for others as you respond to them with this same empathy and grace!

Ep. #22| Value and Worth, Where Does Your Value and Worth Come From, I'm Finding Society Attributes and Attaches These To Some Of The More Arbitrary Stuff

Ep. #22| Value and Worth, Where Does Your Value and Worth Come From, I'm Finding Society Attributes and Attaches These To Some Of The More Arbitrary Stuff
Perfection is truly the disease of our society and like Queen, B said "it's the soul that needs a surgery". In today's episode I talk about worth and value, where does my worth and value come from? Can worth be taken away, is it a movable asset? When all the arbitrary things we attach to our worth and value, having money, being a parent, being coupled, having a certain degree or status, the religions we follow, the car we drive, the job title we have, when all of that is stripped away what is left? Who is left? As Beyonce asks in her masterful and societal commentary song "pretty hurts" - When you're alone all by yourself When you're lying in your bed, Reflection stares right into you, Are you happy with yourself? Stripped away the masquerade The illusion has been shed, Are you happy with yourself? Are you happy with yourself? These are questions that I've been asking myself and I think I'm starting to see the answers. Let's talk about worth and value in a society obsessed with perfection.
