(Matt Monday): 3 Steps to Breaking Your Toxic Dating Cycle

(Matt Monday): 3 Steps to Breaking Your Toxic Dating Cycle
When everybody seems to have found “their person,” it can make us feel so behind and deeply afraid. This is the very moment we fall prey to saying “yes” to the wrong person, just to put an end to the feeling that we won’t find anyone and will miss our chance at having an amazing relationship.

But choosing temporary comfort is a short game, and as we shrink our view of the world, we lose sight of just how much abundance is waiting for us. In reality, those who are successful in love play the long game—one where they trust they deserve more than a relationship that is inherently not meeting their needs, or simply not right for them.

In today’s new episode, I not only show you how to identify someone who’s wrong for you, but I also share how to take that leap to start fresh and set your love life on the right path. (And make sure you stay until the end to hear my special announcement so you can take action in your love life this week!)

You can connect with Patricia at motherhoodinadhd.com and sign up for a class at bit.ly/adhdmama.

During today's episode, Kate and Patricia speak about:

    • Running before we can walk after a diagnosis
    • Taking time to sit with your diagnosis before starting "the work"
    • Processing our diagnosis, recognising the grief, the regrets and emotional response
    • The struggle with our sensory input and emotional regulation
    • Separating from the anger and understanding that we can do things differently
    • The valley of disappointment - going through the discomfort to get through the other side
    • Highlighting the "out of the box" thinking that is common with ADHD
    • Finding your tribe after a diagnosis
    • Empathy and ADHD and absorbing people's energy
    • Inner restlessness and feeling fulfilled in motherhood

UFYB 217: The Problem with (Most) New Year’s Resolutions: A Conversation with Caroline Dooner of The F*ck It Podcast

The problem with most resolutions is that they hinge on the idea that when the clocks roll over to the new year, you will become an entirely new person. In this episode, Caroline Dooner of The F*ck It Podcast will join me to discuss how to establish REALISTIC, achievable intentions or resolutions for the New Year, so that you can create the mental infrastructure to make real, lasting change in your life (but only if you want to - we’ll also cover why the premise that you need to change at all is a flawed one!). Before you sit down to write your 2022 New Year’s resolutions, listen to this episode!

How to Go Easy on Yourself in a Pandemic | Dr. Kristin Neff

How to Go Easy on Yourself in a Pandemic | Dr. Kristin Neff
It's easy to add insult to injury in this pandemic by beating ourselves up. Why are we not exercising more? Eating less? Or boosting our productivity? Kristin Neff, an associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin, says we need to give ourselves a break. To be clear, that does not mean relinquishing our high standards. Neff is one of - if not the - world’s leading experts on self-compassion. That's a squishy-sounding term, but there is a lot of hard-nosed evidence behind it. Per Neff, not beating yourself up does not equate to being lazy. It's about knowing the difference between healthy perfectionism and maladaptive perfectionism. It's about going easy without going soft. The smart, sparing use of the inner cattle prod. This was exactly the conversation I needed to have right now. [Rerun] Kristin Neff on The Healing Power of Self-Compassion

[Rerun] Kristin Neff on The Healing Power of Self-Compassion

A pioneering researcher in the psychology of self-compassion, Dr. Kristin Neff provides deep insight into the incredible healing power of being your own ally. In this episode, we cover some immediately useful ways to practice self-compassion and gain its many benefits. Self-compassion has been linked to reductions in anxiety, physical pain, depression and the stress hormone cortisol. It’s been shown to increase motivation, improve a mastery mindset, and enhance well-being. There’s a great deal of levity in this episode as we discuss how we can benefit from learning to care for ourselves the way we care for others.
