Pony Power at the Tevis Cup

In our last podcast episode, Ute talked with Claire Eckard, author of the book Race Against Time about the journey of Kyla and her tiny Hackney pony Flash to the Tevis Cup. Today both Kayla and her mom join us to talk about their experience and how Flash became the smallest pony to ever successfully complete the Tevis. It just proves the point: Size doesn't matter!

An Endurance Riding Tale for Young Adults & The Young at Heart

An Endurance Riding Tale for Young Adults & The Young at Heart

If you love books, this is the perfect place for you. Once a month, Heather, Ute, and sometimes Krystal, will talk about their favorite horsey book. In today's episode of the EQA Book Club, Ute is talking with Claire Eckhard about her book Gallant - Call of the Trail, a story of a young girl and her horse. The book is modelled loosely on the life of Julie Suhr, a legend among American Endurance Riders with 22 Tevis Cup Buckles and three times Haggin Cup winner. It has been written for young adults, buts its strong endurance riding angle and simple but strong language makes it a joy to read for every horse lover and endurance rider out there.

    Episode 20: Becky Hart

    Episode 20: Becky Hart

This week, Jec has an interesting and enlightening conversation with legendary endurance rider, Becky Hart.

Hart has competed at an international level for longer than some of our listeners have been on this planet! One of her highlights, she says, was at the World Equestrian Games in Sweden in 1990. She and her horse, Rio (RD Grand Sultan) won individual gold. It was the only gold medal for the Americans that year. Hart and Rio entered the stadium and rode to the finish line just after the showjumping completion had ended.

It was a fanfare ending and quite memorable, she said. Most endurance competitions are fairly isolated affairs. Sometimes, there is no one at the finish line and competitors are left a note, saying, 'Mark down your finish time..."
