This year, with Afghanistan becoming a hotbed for new terror plots,
it’s both the countdown to the 20th Anniversary and to a future 9/11
scale attack! Each year, the commemoration of the Anniversary has
been less and less - a BIG mistake for many reasons, including the
classic quote: “He who forgets history is doomed to repeat it.” And
this has never been clearer than today with our surrender in
Afghanistan. If someone would have told you, on 9/11, that 20
years later we would surrender to the enemies who attacked us,
you wouldn’t have believed it. Right? Yet here we are.
This year will be the hardest for us emotionally because, not only
will we be triggered by all the things that remind us of the first 9/11,
from what we ate for breakfast to all the news about terrorism, but
we will also face the current terror threat which has now been
magnified a million times over. Not only did we lose loved ones,
first responders and others on 9/11, we have lost loved ones,
troops and abandoned Americans still in Afghanistan. America has
been wounded twice and Americans are retraumatized by the same
enemy. The Taliban, Al Qaeda and ISIS are all terrorists and none
have forgotten their ultimate goal of taking over the West.
You will hear highlights of the things that have been happening
most recently in Afghanistan and in the U.S. that have the common
denominator of putting us in more danger - politically and physically.
And Dr. Carole gives you advice as to what to do on this Anniversary
and why - from planting flowers to reading books about heroes and
more. To conclude, she reads from her book, Lions and Tigers and
Terrorists, Oh My! How to Protect Your Child in a Time of Terror, to
give you an example of how to answer kids’ most frequently asked
questions - which will undoubtedly come up on this Anniversary and
beyond.
