The Power of District-Level Equity Officers & Leadership (Part 1) w/Dr. Ann Ishimaru and Dr. Decoteau Irby

#31 - Special guest, Dr.  Ann Ishimaru, Professor at the University of Washington, and Dr. Decoteau J. Irby, Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, join Dr. Terrance L. Green (he/him) on the Racially Just Schools podcast. Terrance, Ann and Decoteau talk about the work they've been doing with district-level equity leadership with a specific focus on equity directors and offices for the last six years. We discuss what equity directors are, how and why districts need to support the people in these positions and their work. We also discussed the importance of changing organizational conditions and power dynamics as central parts of equity leadership. Finally, we talked about thinking more expansively beyond professional development as the primary tool for equity leadership and the importance of working right now in districts but also dreaming and working towards new realities, and so much more.
