Kompositören Ethel Smyth föddes 1858 i Storbritannien.

The Metropolitan i New York.

Bill Doggett - Early Black American music, Harry Pace & The story of Black Swan Records

Bill Doggett - Early Black American music, Harry Pace & The story of Black Swan Records
Harry Pace started the first major Black-owned record label in the U.S., but his achievements went mostly unnoticed until recently, when his descendants uncovered his secret history."
A century ago, around the dawn of the Harlem Renaissance, New York City was brimming with music. Black artists like Eubie Blake, Florence Mills and Fats Waller were performing in dance halls and nightclubs including Edmond's Cellar and The Lincoln Theatre.
On the next Coffee Conversations with Greg J, We’re talking to Bill Doggett renowned
Back arts historian about this fascinating story Bill Doggett is one of 4 African American members of The Association For Recorded Sound Collections, an organization compromised of the leading institutions, universities and libraries with notable dedicated Sound and Music Archives such as The Library of Congress, The Smithsonian, Yale, Rutgers, Stanford, UCLA and Manhattan’s Rodgers and Hammerstein Archive.
Doggett’s Early Sound recordings Archive includes many Edison cylinders from the 1890s which were re licensed as flat disc recordings by Columbia and Victor Records. Notably, The Archive includes the only two recordings by the first African American to make a sound recording in 1900, George W Johnson.
These recordings are sampled in live demos in his lectures and multi media presentations played on a 1922 Acoustic Senior table top Victrola. ( a suitcase Victrola)
The story of early American popular music is incomplete without the story of Black Swan Records and Harry Pace - the first record label owned by African Americans. So many artists of the late 1800's and early 1900's were published by this label and the story of Harry Pace is interesting, compelling and full of surprises.

Episode 3145: Dark Enigma - The Mysterious Disappearance Kidnapping Murder of Evelyn Hartley
Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be considered disturbing, frightening and in some cases even offensive. Listener Discretion is therefore advised.

Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I’m your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the things that go bump in the night, monsters lurking under your bed or deep in the forest, that unknown creature lurking just out of sight and frighteningly imagined creatures, ghosts, supernatural beings or unsolved mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma....

And on today’s Dark enigma we’re looking into a very bizarre disappearance? Kidnapping? Murder? Maybe all three. So, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation is yours, so choose your poison accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say vanish or any forms of vanish that will be a single shot and every time I say Wisconsin, that will be a double shot. Yep, you guessed it; someone in the Midwest felt I wasn’t doing enough episodes in the Midwest. So I’ll try to hold back the Fargo accent, but no promises. Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… so let’s put on our Sherlock hats and listen to the evidence in the Kidnapping/Murder/Disappearance of Evelyn Grace Hartley

Evelyn Grace Hartley was born on November 21, 1937 in LaCrosse Country, Wisconsin. She is an American missing young girl, who cryptically vanished on October 24, 1953. Her vanishing started an inquiry including 2,000 people. In the year following her vanishing, the authorities and investigators addressed in excess of 3,500 individuals, and to this day, no hint of her has been found.

Evelyn Hartley was a junior at Central High School at the time of her evident kidnapping. She was a straight-A student, associated with many school sports and exercises. Evie was an Officer at the Presbyterian Youth Program and Westminster Fellowship at her local Church and sang in the Choir. Her Pastor described her as “Quiet, Dependable and Devoted”.

Although, most of these urban legends have some sort of truthful origination to them, it typically only serves the purpose of making the story seem more believable. Many kids know the fears that have been created in their hearts from stories like this all too well. But, deep down, it is also known that even though it is scary…it really isn’t completely true. But what if you found out that the story that you grew up hearing, whether you ignored the warnings or your didn’t, turned out to be real?

1 Peter in HD (Encore Podcast #2) -- Never, Ever!!!

(Fun Fact: Of all of the thousands of messages I have given over the years, THIS one is my devoted daughter's all-time-favorite!)

    “It’s the holiday season.”

A statement, as you will hear on this PODCAST, that cuts two ways.

For far too many of us, this is not “the most wonderful time of the year.” For you, or someone you know, it’s the loneliest time of the year.

But it does not have to be.

Please remember that depending upon your web browser and connection speed, it may take up to 60 seconds for this podcast to begin to play.

God bless you richly as you listen.

    Celebrity Encounters:

    Celebrity Encounters:

Celebrities rule, sometimes quite literally, in our society and for those of us who are not famous, an encounter with a celebrity can be a memorable experience. It can be a fun story to tell, a meh moment or a less than pleasant experience one hopes to forget. In some rare instances, an encounter with a celebrity can be a life-changing event.

In this episode, Dr. McCoy discusses the lessons she has learned through celebrity encounters over the years. These lessons include: the importance of not make assumptions about another's life, not rushing to judgment about another's character, learning to make up one's own mind about an issue instead of taking a celebrity's word for it, realizing that celebrities, like the rest of us, aren't always what they seem but are much more fascinating and complex than any label -- just like us, that for some celebrities, an ordinary moment is a luxury and that kindness and compassion can make a crucial difference in another's life, whether or not celebrity is ever part of the equation.
