    Our Podcast’s Fifth Year Anniversary

    Our Podcast’s Fifth Year Anniversary
In this special fifth anniversary episode, the Fun with Bells Podcast celebrates by turning the tables on host and producer Cathy Booth, as she takes her turn on the other end of the microphone and is grilled by team member Emily Roderick.

Emily digs into the background to the podcast, its aims, and the entire podcast process from idea to launch. The origin of the name is also revealed. Who knew?

Cathy and Emily also choose some of their favourite episodes from the last five years and play some great ‘best bit’ clips. There is then a tantalising glimpse into what topics to expect in the future, so stay tuned, and with your support, the podcast can keep entertaining and informing ringers for the next five years to come.

    Abbie Conant, Bonus Room

    Abbie Conant, Bonus Room

I ask Abbie what it was like to get a telephone call from the writer Malcolm Gladwell for his book Blink. We also discuss her primary teachers, her own teaching, and her thoughts on women in music today.

    Abbie Conant, Part 1

    Abbie Conant, Part 1

Abbie Conant is Professor of Trombone at the Musik Hochschule in Trossingen, Germany. She was principal trombone of the Royal Opera of Turin for a year, then principal trombone of the Munich Philharmonic for 13 years. Her fight against gender discrimination in Munich has been featured in Blink, the bestselling book by Malcolm Gladwell, and our conversation covers that period in detail. In addition, Abbie is active with her husband William in producing a new genre of works for musical theater featuring Abbie as trombonist and singer.

Michael Sachs, Part 1: Principal Trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra

Michael Sachs, Part 1: Principal Trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra

Michael Sachs is the iconic principal trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra. But he is much more than that. Enjoy this far-ranging conversation, as Michael talks about his experiences playing in the Cleveland Orchestra, working with people such as John Williams, teaching brass students, and much more.

In Part 1, Michael talks in depth about auditioning with the Cleveland Orchestra, striving to be (in baseball terms) a five-tool guy, and premiering the John Williams Trumpet Concerto.
