Decades of Face: The Forties, The Support Decade

Decades of Face: The Forties, The Support Decade

In this third episode of our mini-series “Decades of Face,” Dr. Bass advises people in their 40’s actively fighting signs of aging and determined to take the best care of their skin.

With volume loss and wrinkles becoming increasingly visible in this decade of life, Botox and fillers are almost universally part of the beauty plan. This is also prime time to take advantage of energy based treatments for skin changes such as wrinkling, pigment irregularity, age spots, rosacea, and skin laxity.

For those who have followed a good maintenance and prevention plan, you may be able to avoid surgery in your forties and for some, eyelid surgery may be recommended.

Having a beauty plan can provide a decade delay before surgical intervention. If you weren’t already, it’s important to take your skin care seriously over the age of 40.

Hear Dr. Bass’s wise advice for the most common aging signs people see in their forties and how to correct them.

The Eyes Have It: The Wide World of Periocular Rejuvenation w/ Dr. Jason Bloom

The Eyes Have It: The Wide World of Periocular Rejuvenation w/ Dr. Jason Bloom

Although relatively small, the eyes are the first area of the face to show changes, and have a big impact on one’s appearance.

When considering which procedure to have for the eyes, first identify your specific concerns: is it volume loss, crepiness underneath the eyes, crow's feet, low brow position, or fat bulging causing bags beneath the eyes?

There's no meaningful substitute for eyelid surgery, but non-surgical treatments are useful for certain concerns around the eyes. Botox and fillers, for example, can raise the brow and treat crow's feet and frown lines, and chemical peels can treat crepiness around the eyes. But when you notice the upper eyelid skin hooding, a lower brow position, or bulging fat pads, it’s time for a surgical approach.

Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Bloom joins Dr. Bass to discuss the full range of treatments for these changes around the eyes.

Open Your Eyes and Follow Your Beauty With Friends!

Back in 2012 Angie and Sherry started coming to Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center for Botox and Fillers with Dr. Mendelsohn.  But over the last few years they both began noticing changes in their eyes and wanted to know their options for appearing less tired and more refreshed.

Sherry explained that her best feature were her eyes and within the last few years she felt that her eyelashes were being hidden by the heaviness of her eyelids.  It bothered her that her eyes were no longer getting attention and that the loss of volume and elasticity were causing her eyelids to droop.

Angie was also experiencing loss of elasticity and her friends were constantly asking her if she was ok or not feeling well.  She looked tired but actually felt great.  She wanted her eyelids to match the way she felt on the inside, which was young and fun!  Angie became conscious of her aging looks while attending a reunion.  That’s when she decided she was going to do whatever it took to look as great as she felt.

A portion of this video contains actual eyelid surgery.  Dr. Mendelsohn describes the upper blepharoplasty procedure in great detail.  He starts the procedure by carefully measuring both eyelids to make sure they are balanced.  Dr. Mendelsohn then numbs the area and begins the procedure, which only takes about 10 minutes per eyelid.

Angie and Sherry came to Advanced Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center with two other co-workers to have their upper blepharoplasty.  They felt pampered, had a great time together, and while they were recovering they compared notes no who was doing the “best”.  Having their upper eyelid procedures together kept them talking about their individual experiences and they just couldn’t be happier.

Sherry has her eyelashes back and she looks brighter and less tired.  Angie doesn’t pull on her upper eyelids anymore and loves her refreshed appearance.

Eyelid lifts, body dysmorphic disorder, and dentists doing cosmetic surgery

Eyelid lifts, body dysmorphic disorder, and dentists doing cosmetic surgery
Tonight we discussed one of my favorite operations - eyelid surgery. We also discussed body dysmorphic disorder, an unhealthy predisposition with one's appearance. And all over the country, dentists want to inject Botox and wrinkle fillers...without doing a plastic surgery residency. We discuss the American Society of Plastic Surgeon's position on this matter. It's no surprise that they, and I, think they should stick to dentistry...
