On this episode the boys are back from a summer hiatus just in time to celebrate the Famicom's 40th Birthday! Join Sam, John, and special guest Shannon Eno as they talk about all the games that North America missed out on, with the NES! Price is Retro is back and Deus Guess Machina has been well maintained and ready to play! All this and more!
The Famicom, known as the Nintendo Entertainment System over here in North America, is arguably one of the most important systems of all time. Well it turns out this year is the 40th anniversary of the console's launch in Japan so it is WELL overdue for me to cover it here on Still Loading. To help me discuss this legendary system I am joined by Stephan Reese from the non-profit Interactive Art Collection (also known as The Art of Nintendo Power on Twitter), Try from the YouTube channel My Life in Gaming and Dave from the YouTube channel Game Dave.
The four of us discuss the history of the system, what it has meant to us all personally and why this system seems to have such staying power in pop culture zeitgeist.

It’s our unrequited love letter to one of the best arcade cabinets ever made in an episode that doesn’t focus just on a game or a series, but an entire system - the Nintendo Vs. System.
How did Nintendo find success in the worst possible time to sell video games? Why did American audiences have to pay a quarter for the first taste of the Famicom? How did stupid sexy Flanders blaze a trail for Goldeneye, Killer Instinct, and Battletoads? What are our top three Nintendo Vs. games and what are yours?
We attempt to set the Guinness Book World Record for the number of times “PPU” is said in a podcast, finally get to shoot the dog in Duck Hunt, describe why hoarding is a good thing, and talk about 37 Vs. games… in a row.

Jeremy Parish chats with Audi Sorlie about the RIKI trilogy of games for NES (8Bit Music Power, 8Bit Music Power Final, and Kira Kira Star Night DX). What are these brand-new 8-bit games, and what makes them such landmarks in modern retrogaming?

And now, a word from Nick:
The Famicom Disk System is a weird little thing that only came out in Japan, long before console add-ons like the 32X and Sega CD destroyed all interest in ever trying them again. Would it work? No one knew - it was the video game Wild West of the late 80’s! A few things kept it from ever catching on or releasing overseas, but we recently found one in great condition at a retro game store and we’re here to tell you all about it! It was full of great ideas, but technology just moved too fast...
Austin Young guests this week to talk about Fire Emblem. We go over the history of the franchise, the lore, the gameplay, and our impressions of the recently localized Shadow Dragon game. We also cover all the news and rumors including Halo Infinite's release window, Nintendo continuing to disappoint fans with questionable decisions and Cyberpunk 2077 reviews. We close with a discussion about the games we've been playing recently. Listen to Super Switch Headz on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you enjoy podcasts.

What’s the oldest source material for a video game that you ever played? Don’t answer yet, because Laser Time’s prepared an 8-bit extravaganza for you this week, all courtesy of some of the worst licensed Nintendo games ever made! It’s easy to forget that the adaptive output of the Nintendo Entertainment System/Famicon represented over a century of popular culture. For a certain type of kid, the NES became your gateway to a staggering number of classic films, television, animation and even literature, with a volume and span no other game console has achieved before or since...
