    Breakfast on the Shore

    Breakfast on the Shore

After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to many people. One of these times was to Peter and some other disciples who had spent an unproductive night fishing. Jesus directed them to cast their nets on the other side of the boat, resulting in a miraculous fish catch.

Jesus cooked breakfast for these followers on the beach and then provided Peter with a new opportunity to follow him and care for others in the future. Peter had previously denied Jesus, but now Jesus says to "feed my sheep".

Jesus can forgive us and help us do better when we sin.

Bible verses used in this episode:
    John 21:1-17

    Outline:

    1. Fishing (John 21:1-3)
    2. Great catch and breakfast (John 21:4-14)
    3. Jesus talks to Peter (John 21:15-17)

    Tips for teaching:

    • Help children find the Sea of Galilee on Google Maps
    • Serve children fish and bread.
    • Children can make a craft involving one or more of the following: fish, campfire, sheep
    • Discussion questions::
      • How much did you love Jesus when you first became a Christian?  How much do you love Jesus now?  Talk about some ways you show your love for Jesus now.
      • If Jesus came to you and asked, “Do you love me more than these” (‘more than your life or livelihood’), what would I say?  What would I do to show Jesus that I love him more than these?
    • Write a letter to Jesus with two parts:
      • thank him for loving you to the very end and how his love makes you feel, and
      • how you can “feed Jesus sheep” to demonstrate your love for Jesus.

A Spiritual Temple | Feed My Sheep Week 3 | Sermon

A Spiritual Temple | Feed My Sheep Week 3 | Sermon

As we continue our series, Feed My Sheep, we delve into the concept of Christ being our "cornerstone." This characteristic of Christ is integral in Peter's letter and understanding it can help us know who we are, and how we operate as part of the church. We are spiritual people, and upon the foundation of Christ is being built a spiritual temple.

Sometimes in life you inherit things you didn't ask for that make life difficult, hard, and painful. As we continue our journey following Peter's story, we now look at 1 & 2 Peter which are the letters he wrote towards the end of his ministry. His hope and great expectation for his future with Jesus can give us encouragement even in the midst of situations we didn't ask for.

Jesus & Peter - Prior To/Following The Crucifixion (ENCOUNTERS)

Jesus & Peter - Prior To/Following The Crucifixion (ENCOUNTERS)

An interesting encounter to finish up this batch of episodes, we are looking at Peter:  prior to Jesus' death and after His resurrection.  Why is this encounter important?  We know a lot about Peter but in the hours immediately preceding Jesus' crucifixion, he is led astray but doubt and fear.  He denies Christ 3 times.  It is probably his lowest point.  From there, he and the other disciples scatter.  In 3 day's time however, Jesus is raised and He goes on to appear to the disciples, including Peter.  He makes a point to address Peter and asks him, "Do you love Me?"  This is not only part of Peter's restoration but also a charge to fulfull the calling he now will have:  "Feed My sheep."  This encounter is an important place to end this series.  Peter had doubts yet Jesus sought Him out and gave him purpose and vision for his life.  We can have doubts as well.  But Jesus is always in the process of revealing Himself to us.  He does this so that we can trust Him more fully and be partners with Him in advancing His kingdom.  Amen!

    The Joyful Christian Worker

    The Joyful Christian Worker

We are born again to go out and serve. Also, to have a zeal and excitement when we serve. Peter had a lot of zeal for going out and serving the Lord. We are valuable to God but sometimes before we are valuable we have to be humbled first. This happened with Peter. Peter overcame that with God’s leading and even led him to be involved in some miracles such as Tabitha. Tabitha was a joyful servant and did what she could for the Lord but became sick and died, but when Peter came in the room. Once he was in the room he made everyone leave the room to pray over Tabitha and after that he told her to arise and she did. With that many believed in the Lord. Both Peter and Tabitha were joyful workers of the Lord. Just as they were joyful workers we should be as well. Please join Pastor Scheving as he preaches on “The Joyful Christian Worker.”
