What difference for the world are you going to make today?

In 1992, New York City based rock 'n' roll band The Spin Doctors released their hit song "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" from their 1991 album Pocket Full of Kryptonite, which hit #17 on the pop charts.

Virtually everyone at the time assumed the song was written about an ex-girlfriend of frontman and songwriter, Chris Barron. But 27 years later, Barron tweeted the truth;  the song was written about his step-mom, who bullied him, told him he would never amount to anything and he would "die in a gutter."

Well Barron use this abuse as fuel for his fire and wrote a song about her.  Here's the tweet that went viral:

"My stepmom told me I'd be a janitor [nothing wrong with that] and live in the basement of a school and play guitar for the rats. I wrote a song about her. It's called Little Miss Can't Be Wrong. It's been played on the radio three million time."

OK, episode 24, It's not what you said, it's how you said it. Many have heard this, and for some, it may have been the last thing you heard prior to an argument starting. I'm sure I've been there a time or two as I've been known to say things from time to time in a way that could have gone better. I think most people probably have. We live in some very polarized times and I think, as most listeners have probably gathered by now, that it is up to each of us to make the world a better place in any way we can. How we interact with one another is a very big part of that.
In our relationships, whether it be with a spouse, a co-worker, someone we coach or mentor, have you ever caught yourself saying something in such a way that you can just tell that the other party is not taking what you've said the way you intended? Have you ever stopped to think it may be because of the way you are saying it? I know I have, and that is something that I consciously try to think about when I am trying to make a point to someone at a time in which I may be frustrated or upset for some reason. This is something we should all think about when we are interacting with others. Am I saying this in such a way that they will listen and absorb what I am saying, or has my tone or demeanor put them on defense or shutdown mode.
This week's feel good story comes to us from Holland, MI where a local brewery, Big Lake Brewing has been brewing a specially crafted beer lately called Healthcare Heroes. Not only are they brewing this in honor of local healthcare workers battling the pandemic, they have donated much of the proceeds from sales of this special brew to said workers at the local Holland, MI hospital. Denise Shanks tells the story of Smiley Pete, Lexington’s “town dog” who first appeared around 1944. He took up residence in downtown Lexington, and was cared for by multiple people and businesses. His favorite spot was the corner of E Main Street and N Limestone, and a bronze plaque memorializes him there.
