It’s January, so that means it’s time for the AIPT Movies podcast’s “Uncannuary” series! Where we cover movies based on comic books or original ideas with similarly “superhuman” characters! In this week’s episode, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss the martial arts/creature FX direct-to-video classic, Guyver: Dark Hero!

Producer's note: When we prepped Jordan's new intro to this amazing interview from April of '22, I had jotted something down like, "who could have dreamed back then that he'd go on to win all the awards." Jordan rightly called this out, because (as she says here) she, and other critics, DID dream that. What I'd meant was: it seemed like one of those performances and films that you hope will be both lauded AND awarded, but you aren't holding your breath for the latter. How thrilling to be wrong sometimes.

As a kid, he was Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Data in The Goonies. But as he got older, Ke Huy Quan began to feel that there wasn't really a place for him in front of the camera. After decades of telling himself he didn't miss acting, Crazy Rich  Asians made a splash, and Ke began to think that maybe it was time to get back to acting. Ke opens up about all of that, and landing in the perfect threefold role of Waymond, Alpha Waymond, and CEO Waymond in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Carla is the first EVER female Fight Director at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival where she is currently working on their production of "The Tempest" (directed by Nicholas C. Avila) which opened LAST NIGHT!!! They get really into the nitty gritty about how that collaborative process works between Direction, Fight, Intimacy, and they deep dive into the work being an advocate, ally, and artist. Her conversation on being a "first" as well as who are the unsung heroes of a production bring a brand new, and hugely important, perspective to the show!

Cheryl Lewis Trains Hard; that is her simple, winning philosophy. Cheryl is a professional stunt woman, dancer, actor, aerialist, puppeteer and more. Cheryl is a unique, multi-discipline performer. Because of her desire to learn and master new skills, Cheryl has performed in modern dance companies, in musicals, on cruise ships & live stage shows. She has performed as an aerialist/in-line skater/tumbler/stunt performer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom stage show “Tarzan Rocks”. Cheryl has danced in operas at the Washington National Opera, The New York City Opera and at The Metropolitan Opera.

Cheryl Lewis is an all around athlete. She has experience in numerous martial arts including Taekwondo, where she trains with Taekwondo Life Magazine former guest, Master Simon Rhee, in Kung fu, where she trains with Sifu David Morizot, in Wushu, Karate, Kendo, and in Kickboxing. She studied for several years during her work and stay in Japan. She is also experienced in tumbling, wire and harness work, swords, stair and pratt falls, in line skating, and swimming.

Cheryl Lewis is known for I Am Legend (2007), American Gangster (2007), Salt (2010), and Straight Outta Compton (2015). She will be appearing in Wonder Woman 1984 later this year.

Cheryl Lewis is a graduate of host, Marc Zirogiannis' Alma Mater, Hofstra University.
