Consistency - does it really define success for independent filmmakers? Ep87

Consistency - does it really define success for independent filmmakers? Ep87

This week I'm talking all about consistency and debating if it's really that important to being a successful filmmaker?   If you're like me then consistency isn't your strength, which feels problematic considering so many thought leaders tout that consistency is the key to success.  So what are the benefits of embracing consistency, creativity, innovation, and the power of diverse perspectives?

If you're interested in making movies that matter, building a sustainable career, and positively impacting your audiences, this episode is for you. Because I have a counterargument for why being consistently inconsistent can work just as well.

The Business of Filmmaking: A few things they don't teach you in film school Ep81

The Business of Filmmaking: A few things they don't teach you in film school Ep81

In this episode, Sue dives deep into a topic that not typically covered in film school - the business of filmmaking. 🎥💼

Here are three key takeaways from this episode:

1️⃣ The Craft vs. The Business: While film school teaches us a lot about the art and technique of filmmaking, it often doesn't teach us about the essential business aspects. Producing work in the film industry involves much more than just the craft of making the film. But don't be discouraged! If you aspire to be your own boss and create your own work, you're in the right place to learn the business side of the industry.

2️⃣ Building a Sustainable Career: If you want to earn a living and have a long-lasting career in filmmaking, it's important to create and initiate your own projects. While specializing in a specific area and working solely on other people's productions might be an option, it may not provide the financial stability and creative fulfillment you desire. This episode explores how to make filmmaking a sustainable career by creating meaningful work that resonates with audiences.

3️⃣ The Power of Consistency: Consistency is key in many pursuits, including filmmaking. However, it can be a challenge to maintain consistency while nurturing your creative abilities. Sue's sharing some thoughts on this and more.

If you want to dive deeper into the topics discussed on the show, make sure to sign up for our weekly drop of Moonshine via email at moonshinecommunicationsacademy.com. 💌

The Rewards and Adventures of Documentary Filmmaking Ep80

The Rewards and Adventures of Documentary Filmmaking Ep80

In this episode, Host Sue Collins does a dive deep into the world of impact filmmaking and how to make movies that truly matter. If you're someone who is passionate about creating meaningful work and making a positive impact on your audience, then this episode is definitely for you.

One of the key takeaways from this episode is the importance of exploring topics through documentary filmmaking. It is a truly rewarding experience that allows you to meet amazing people and go to places you never thought you would have the opportunity to visit.

Another takeaway from this episode is the value of developing strong interviewing skills. Whether you're interviewing talent for a film, podcast, or even your own boss for an article, having excellent interviewing skills is crucial.

Lastly, Sue discusses the importance of sharing accurate information and combating false messages. In today's age of social media, it is more important than ever to provide people with the facts so they can make informed decisions. Making impact films allows us to share meaningful ideas and information through narrative storytelling. By interviewing experts and capturing personal stories, we can provide our audience with enough facts to make up their own minds and not just be influenced by what they see on social media.

Overall, this episode is packed with valuable insights and practical advice for anyone interested in impact filmmaking. Whether you're just starting out or have been in the industry for years, there is something for everyone in this episode. So grab your headphones, tune in, and get ready to learn how to make movies that truly make a difference.

Beyond the Credits: Leveraging Your Documentary Film for Long-Term Impact Ep 77

Beyond the Credits: Leveraging Your Documentary Film for Long-Term Impact Ep 77

This week on the Moonshine Moonshot podcast, host Sue Collins discusses the power of independent filmmaking and how it can be applied to various fields. Using a case study of a documentary called "Conquering Cancer,"  Sue encourages listeners to think beyond just creating a film and moving on to the next project. Instead, she advocates for hybrid distribution and maximizing the potential of each project. Filmmakers can avoid burnout and reach a wider audience by avoiding the constant cycle of starting from scratch.  Your film doesn't have to be a one-and-done.  It can be ongoing and help you build a genuinely sustainable career.

A must-listen for any aspiring filmmakers or media professional.

In this series, a group of four tech enthusiasts, Marco Ciappelli, Sean Martin, Rafael Brown, and Carey D'Souza, embark on a journey exploring the entwining paths of society and technology. By delving into the past, they aim to shed light on the future implications of technological advancements.

In a world increasingly defined by digital footprints, Marco Ciappelli ignites our premiere episode with a puzzling thought - is the voice you're hearing genuinely his, or a creation of artificial intelligence? As we navigate the intricate web of reality and AI, Marco's playful musings on his constant podcast appearances underscore a broader theme: the profound impact of AI on our society.

Listen as Marco ponders if the voice you hear is his or a replica, as Rafael delves deep into the role of personal data in this AI-driven world, and as Carey wonders if AI serves as a tool or a replacement in the creative process. Sean? Well, he brings perspective from a cybersecurity standpoint, pointing out that with every tech leap, there's inherent risk, but also immense art and creativity.

Remember the old silent films and typewriters? They might be of the past, but their essence lives on in the present and potentially the future. Dive into this intriguing discussion on AI's influence in movies and TV, amidst the backdrop of ongoing actor and writer strikes. Discover the parallels with past technology shifts and uncover the implications of such disruptions.
