    Five Teachers Talk About Flipgrid

    Five Teachers Talk About Flipgrid

In this episode, Nick sits down with the entire Flipgrid team to talk all things Flipgrid. With so many teachers searching for new mediums to connect with their students remotely Flipgrid is a platform designed to do exactly that. If you are looking for a way to reignite that spark and see your students even when we can't be in the same space Flipgrid is the platform worth diving into.

    Leadership and Language

    Leadership and Language

In this episode, Nick sits down with David Marquet a former US Navy officer who commanded the USS Santa Fe, a nuclear submarine, and literally turned the ship around.

Captain Marquet began treating his crew as leaders, not followers, and giving control, not taking control. It wasn’t long before operations took a dramatic turn. Santa Fe went from “worst to first,” achieving the highest retention and operational standings in the Navy.

Nick and David discuss the language of leadership and words we do and do not use with the people we work with, whether it is our students, parents, or colleagues.

    002. Swivl: The Rise of Swivl, The Fall of Recap. The Comeback of Synth

This edition of EdTech Stories features 3 different properties from one company - Swivl.  After failing to secure investment in 2010, Brian Lamb and Vlad Tettlebaum launched The Swivl Robot.  Their success in serving the education community, led them down a path to develop the student video platform known as Recap.

However, due to a number of circumstances including the rise of the website Flipgrid, Recap ultimately was shut down. Why did this happen?  And as a result, Swivl is attempting to take the lessons they’ve learned from Recap to develop a new podcasting platform named Synth. This episode is called “The Rise of Swivl. The Fall of Recap. The Comeback of Synth.”

    001. Wakelet: Inside The Wake

    001. Wakelet: Inside The Wake

On the debut of EdTech Stories, we profile the company Wakelet in this episode called “Inside The Wake.”  Wakelet is a company and platform created by Jamil Khalil, a former Airbus employee, who sought an easier way to organize the abundance of information available on the internet.  He overcame several obstacles in his path to develop a platform which makes it easier to organize the web. Through some hard work, perseverance, and of course a little luck, Jamil and his team at Wakelet have designed Wakelet - a platform used by millions of educators each year.

Making it real and having fun!

Making it real and having fun!

As teachers, we are tasked with making hundreds maybe thousands of decisions every day, with countless children all with a variety of abilities and learning needs. How do we design tasks that challenge and allow for multiple entry points in a whole-class setting? What does it mean to have an effective teaching practice?

In this episode, Nick dives into a real-life problem that he presented to a group of grade 7 students who require additional supports in understanding decimals, place value, and problem-solving.

    Process, Planning and Inquiry Learning

    Process, Planning and Inquiry Learning

In this episode, Nick will go through his planning process as it relates to his use of inquiry-based learning in a typical class setting as well as an intervention based grouping.

He will dive into his "WHY' and the benefits he sees on a daily basis using this approach with a wide variety of students every day.

Would you want to be a student in your own lesson?
