    Antibiotics And Tendon Damage

    Antibiotics And Tendon Damage

Can antibiotics cause tendon damage? [Image of pills]

Is there a link between certain antibiotics (and other drugs) and tendon disorders like Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow, Rotator Cuff injuries (and other tendon issues) – Or even tendon ruptures?

Yes, there’s a class of antibiotics called ‘Fluoroquinolones’ that have been know for decades to cause various forms of tendon damage – (Cipro being the most well-known and commonly prescribed.)

“As of July 2008, the FDA mandated that all FQ products have a black-box warning indicating an increased risk in adverse events including tendon rupture.”

In this episode, Allen Willette, from Tennis Elbow Classroom goes into detail about these antibiotic-induced tendon injuries, including:

    • Which specific antibiotics have a risk of tendon damage

    • The other serious side effects that these drugs can cause

    • How these drugs can damage your tendons (and even joints)

    • How these injuries differ from "typical" tendon injuries

    • And thoughts on how one might recover from these injuries

Episode #152: MCAS and Implants with Dr. Tania Dempsey, MD

Episode #152: MCAS and Implants with Dr. Tania Dempsey, MD

    Why You Should Listen:

In this episode, you will learn about the connection between Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and medical implants.

    About My Guest:

My guest for this episode is Dr. Tania Dempsey. Tania Dempsey, MD is an expert in chronic disease, autoimmune disorders, and mast cell activation syndrome. She is sought after internationally for her knowledge of chronic immune dysregulation and has attracted patients from Israel, England, Thailand, and France. Dr. Dempsey utilizes integrative medicine to get to the patient's root causes of their illness. Her purpose is to understand why people get sick and to help patients understand their body and why it fails them when it does.

    Key Takeaways:

    • What is the difference between primary and secondary MCAS
    • What are the primary triggers of MCAS?
    • What is the connection between MCAS and MCS?
    • What are the best lab tests to explore MCAS?
    • Do breast implants contribute to MCAS?
    • What is capsular contracture?
    • Can fungus and mold be found in breast implants?
    • Do biofilms grow around breast implants?
    • Does explantation lead to improvement in MCAS patients?
    • Do metal implants in the body trigger MCAS?
    • Are there options for material compatibility testing that can be evaluated before implant placement?
    • Can hernias be repaired without the use of mesh?
    • Do dental materials play a role in triggering MCAS?
    • Do fluoroquinolones trigger MCAS?
    • Are gentle approaches to detoxification better tolerated in MCAS patients?
    • Is there a potential downside in over-stabilizing mast cells?
    • Can Th1/Th2 modulation interventions help to reduce MCAS symptoms?
    • Does a focus on the limbic system and vagus nerve lead patients to improvement?

Episode #146: Fluoroquinolone Toxicity with Dr. Mark Ghalili, DO and Jason Sousa

Episode #146: Fluoroquinolone Toxicity with Dr. Mark Ghalili, DO and Jason Sousa

    Why You Should Listen:

In this episode, you will learn about fluoroquinolone toxicity or "floxing".

    About My Guests:

My guests for this episode are Dr. Mark Ghalili and Jason Sousa.

Mark Ghalili, DO is a Regenerative Medicine Specialist at Regenerative Medicine LA. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of California Irvine and then went on to obtain his medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences. As a regenerative medicine specialist, Dr. Ghalili’s passion lies in teaching his patients about chronic disease, prevention, and finding the underlying reasons for an illness. Unfortunately, a monumental event in his own personal life changed his path forever. In late 2016, Dr. Ghalili experienced a severe and common adverse reaction to a widely prescribed antibiotic called Cipro. On his second day of antibiotic treatment, he found himself grasping for life in excruciating pain. This was only the beginning of an onslaught of symptoms that changed his life forever. Dr. Ghalili soon suffered from complete muscle wasting, burning neuropathy, seizures, brain fog, vertigo, blurry vision, and tendon tears in his legs. His life became confined to a wheelchair, crippled and unable to walk. Dr. Ghalili’s only hope was implementing alternative and regenerative therapies, as the traditional medical doctors had no answer for him, nor did they even believe him. Dr. Ghalili went from being confined in a wheelchair, unable to treat patients, living in excruciating pain, to gaining the gift of running again, something he will never take for granted. Dr. Ghalili was persistent to gain his normal life back so he could help millions around the world.

Jason Sousa is a patient advocate and editor of FloxieHope.com. His own health took a sharp decline six months after using a fluoroquinolone antibiotic in 2013. Today, Jason works tirelessly to help others that have been "floxed" to improve the quality of their lives and put an end to their suffering by sharing knowledge and stories of hope.

    Key Takeaways:

    • What medications may lead to "floxing"?
    • How common is damage from fluoroquinolone antibiotics
    • What are the symptoms associated with fluoroquinolone toxicity?
    • How long does it take to be "floxed"?
    • How might these medications contribute to CFS/ME?
    • Are there conditions or genetic predispositions that increase the potential for a bad outcome?
    • What is the mechanism of action?
    • Can any labs show that these medications have led to damage?
    • What is the role of fluoride in "floxing"?
    • Do other medications contain fluoride and have similar potential adverse outcomes?
    • Is the damage limited to the tendons?
    • What is the role of magnesium and iron in fluoroquinolone toxicity?
    • How do these drugs impact collagen and structural integrity
    • Is there a connection between fluoroquinolones and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?
    • Can fluoroquinolones trigger Mast Cell Activation Syndrome
    • How can side effects be minimized?
    • Can supporting the mitochondria lead to improvement?
    • Is there a place for detoxification of fluoride?
    • What is the role of leaky gut and supporting the microbiome
    • Can supplemental collagen be helpful?
    • How can macrophages be shifted to the anti-inflammatory M2 type?
