#362 - Butter Bongs & Bar Fights - "Dr. Death" Steve Williams

This week, we look at someone who was thought to be the toughest man alive, by just about everyone who ever met him. A college football player/wrestler, who made his mark in pro wrestling, all over the world. He was as beloved as he was feared. We'll hear all about too many bar/street fights to count, not mention how a person gets caught at customs, with a lot of drugs... THREE times!

Be an amazing athlete at every sport you try, insist that copious amounts of drugs can be taken to other continents, and be beloved by everyone in your industry with "Dr. Death" Steve Williams!!

    Check us out, every Tuesday!

We will continue to bring you the biggest idiots in sports history!!

Eastern Lariat Special: 1 More Round - Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame Non-Wrestler/Historical/US/Japan Candidates (with Emerald FlowShow's Gerard di Trolio)

Dylan is back with part 2 of the Wrestling Observer newsletter Hall of Fame coverage with another voter! This time it's Gerard di Trolio from the Emerald Flowshow hops on to talk about the Non-Wrestler category which features Japanese promoters Sanshiro Takagi & Rossy Ogawa, legendary Japanese referee in JWA & AJPW and later NOAH's On-Air GHC Title Commissioner Joe Higuchi, AJPW's Triple Crown foreign liaison and chairman of the Pacific Wrestling Federation Lord James Blears, and the man who helped get Rikidozan into wrestling, Bobby Bruns, along with all the non-Japanese candidates which include commentators, promoters, legendary writers, managers, belt makers and music men:

    Lord James Blears
    Dave Brown
    Bobby Bruns
    Bob Caudle
    Bobby Davis
    Joe Higuchi
    Jim Johnston
    Larry Matysik
    James Melby
    Rossy Ogawa

    Tony Schiavone
    George Scott
    Sanshiro Takagi
    Mike Tenay
    Ted Turner
    Roy Welch
    Stanley Weston
    The Grand Wizard

We also go over the historical candidates in the North American region and finally circle back around to the Japanese region for another Round of Dylan trying to get a voter to vote for Yoshiaki Fujiwara and just Gerard's thought on this year's cast of characters, which ends with Gerard giving us his ballot, which differs a bit from Case Lowe, our last guest.

If you enjoy the Eastern Lariat and want more, including reviews of major live events, tournaments (right now STARDOM's Goddesses of Tag League, as well as DDT's D-Ou tournament), historical content like the 90's project covering the top 50 matches every year of the 90s and a top 10 and awards audio and currently running a daily written review feature on the career of Manami Toyota, check out our Patreon: patreon.com/easternlariat

#294 - Long, Thick & Massive - The Theatricalness of "Neon" Leon Spinks

#294 - Long, Thick & Massive - The Theatricalness of "Neon" Leon Spinks

This week, we explore one of the most interesting, strange & wild careers that we've ever heard of, combined with a private life that can easily be described as "erratic". He has more arrests than you can count, but one thing remains true, that he's self destructive, but very nice person. An Olympic gold medalist, and member of a legendary boxing family. He became heavyweight champion of the world, in only his 8th fight, and it went downhill from there. Fast. He even had his teeth stolen, multiple times. But one part of him is incredibly impressive, and it's not his right hand!

Shock the world, screw it up, and become The Chicken Wing King, instead, with "Neon" Leon Spinks!!

Episode Sixty Eight - Mike Awesome
Episode Sixty Eight - Mike Awesome
Imagine a wrestler, 6 foot plus, built like a gladiator, as agile as a cat and a relative of the biggest superstar there has ever been! That my friends is Mike Awesome! A huge monster of a man who entered the world of wrestling in the early 90s in FMW's Hardcore Revolution! Who went on to win the ECW title on his first night as a fully signed ECW wrestler, defeating the unbeatable Taz! So why will Mike Awesome go down as one of the biggest missed opportunities, one of the worst booked superstars of all time? Well some will say Vince Russo, some will point to his lack of true mic skills...but to find out the real answer, join the Better Call Creative brothers as they look into the career missteps of Mike Awesome. Then reimagining what might have been of Mike Awesome in WCW, in WWE and yes, in TNA too! Rounding out the episode with a little TV fun with Wrestling Hoss's of the past, this is a sleeper episode on one of the greatest big men to step into the ring! Everything is Awesome...so you had better call creative!

Eastern Lariat Special: The Life and Death of Hayabusa

Eastern Lariat Special: The Life and Death of Hayabusa

5 years have passed since the untimely death of one of pro-wrestling's most beloved performers of all time: Hayabusa. On this show, originally released one day after Hayabusa's death on March 4, 2016, STRIGGA was joined by FMW expert Bret (@BAHUFMW on Twitter) to talk about the life and career of the man that started his career under his real name Eiji Ezaki and would rise to unparalleled heights until his accident in 2001 as Hayabusa.

EP. 8- Deathmatches & Burgers with Grill Em' All Owner Ryan Haskins, and Greg Buries The Shitty Promoter That Owes Him Money

EP. 8- Deathmatches & Burgers with Grill Em' All Owner Ryan Haskins, and Greg Buries The Shitty Promoter That Owes Him Money

Gregory Iron sits down with the inspirational Ryan Harkins, winner of Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race,” drummer for hardcore band "Trappist" and co-owner of Los Angeles pro wrestling and heavy metal themed restaurant “Grill Em’ All.”

Ryan talks with Greg about his passion for hardcore music, deathmatch wrestling, cooking and how he overcame his addiction to alcohol to create one of the most well-known restaurants in California.

Ryan talks about discovering pro wrestling via the WWF’s “Rock N’ Wrestling” Connection and the Hulkamania Workout set, how meeting his best friend Matt led to attending independent wrestling events in Cleveland, falling in love with deathmatch wrestling through seeing guys like Mad Man Pondo and Onita, Matt’s pursuit of pro wrestling training and Ryan’s start on the hardcore scene, comparing being a punk musician to being an independent wrestler, moving to California with Matt to start a food truck, how running a food truck is as territorial as wrestling, participating on Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race” during its first season, having the balls to pursue ones goals, guilty pleasure bands, his favorite wrestlers, the importance of mental health, how being on the verge of cirrhosis led to him pursuing sobriety to save his life, what makes the perfect burger, and Greg reveals to Ryan how all pro wrestlers love Creed.

Before the podcast, Greg is HALF HOT AND PISSED OFF as he chats with co-host Aaron Bauer and BURIES the terrible promoter that owes him money, as well as the awful “pro” wrestler he had to work with on the promoters event, and how this pro wrestler mocked Greg’s physical disability. Aaron talks about his friendship with FMW deathmatch wrestler BADBOY Hido, and tells a hilarious story about how Hido had to tell an indie wrestler what his girlfriend’s Kanji tattoo actually meant.

    - - -

Gregory Iron wrestles with cerebral palsy, a neurological disorder that affects the mobility of his right arm, hand and fingers. Trained by WWE NXT Superstar Johnny Gargano in 2006, Iron has conquered his disability and gone on to work with some of the top names in wrestling including "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, CM Punk, The Dudley Boyz, Tomasso Ciampa and many others.

Co-host Aaron Bauer has worked in the professional wrestling industry for over two decades. A jack-of-all-trades, Aaron has worked in the industry as a local promoter for ECW events, a manager, and has provided color commentary over matches for some of the biggest stars in WWE, WCW, ECW, AEW, Impact & ROH.

    Episode 139: 1990s Infinoki Draft

    Episode 139: 1990s Infinoki Draft

It is the year 1997. Scientists discovered a big curvature in the space-time-continuum which has led to the formation of a giant interstellar waiting room filled with professional wrestlers from allover Japan who are confused and are wondering why they're there and what's going to happen to them. At this point, STRIGGA, Dylan and their guest WH Park come into play as they each present a scenario that could've taken place in an alternate reality of 1997. From there on they each draft 25 wrestlers to create a new promotion to lead japanese pro-wrestling to the 2000s!
