#167: AGI: Where Will it End? (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

#167: AGI: Where Will it End? (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 167th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. It’s our three-year anniversary doing these livestreams!

This week we revisit raccoon dogs and the origins of SARS-CoV2. Then: Artificial Intelligence and ChatGPT—should we be worried? If so, how worried? Bret proposes three categories of AI: malevolent, misaligned, and deranging. Finally: trans ideology and activism: trans-women will not be allowed to compete against women in international sports. And men are allowed to shut down women on a #LetWomenSpeak tour, so long as they claim to be women, or to be speaking for men who claim to be women. This is not the next civil rights battle; this is a battle for reality.

#161: They’re Making Our Point (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 161st in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

This week, we discuss Godot, dogs, and science. Do the New York Times and the Brookings Institution have insight into what’s true, what’s not, and how science is done? Could they define hypothesis, prediction, or test? We think not. New “research” out of Brookings claims that we are leading purveyors of misinformation, who “burnish [our] scientific bona fides” by using tricky terms like “correlation” and “causation.” Brookings having established that we are cranks for discussing scientific articles that are on pre-print servers (and so haven’t been peer-reviewed), we point to Nature’s discussion this week of…a scientific article on a pre-print server. Finally, we discuss how you might use a scientific approach to increase your odds of surviving in the Indonesian rainforest.

In this 131st in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

This week, we discuss why so many things, in modernity, and right now in particular, are labeled the opposite of what they truly are. What we are told is safe, is toxic; we are told we must do, we should not. How did this happen? Beginning with a tale of scientific discovery in the 1990s and early 2000s—involving telomeres and cancer and senescence and mice—we arrive at one answer: if the powers-that-be have insight, they are better served by keeping that insight to themselves, by refusing to share it. And so: all the newspapers, all the universities, all the everything, are failing. We also discuss baby formula—why you might want or need it, and share a recipe from a naturopath that will be far better than anything you can (or cannot) find on the shelves. And we discuss fathers: genetic fatherhood, biological fatherhood, cultural fatherhood. There are many ways to be a good father.

#125 Alito Goes a Long Way (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 125th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens.

This week, we discuss the new current thing. The new current thing is not the Pfizer data release that happened this week, although perhaps it should be. The new current thing is the leaked draft majority opinion from Judge Alito, Supreme Court Justice of the United States, which reveals that Roe v. Wade is likely to be overturned. We discuss abortion, abortion policy, and what Americans say when they’re polled about these things. Is there a hard-and-fast line to draw? Does biology provide insights? We argue that abortion is not a women’s issue, per se, but an issue that pertains to all humanity, while also being a feminist issue.
