There's a long history in divination and fortune telling.  One of the most famous prognosticators of all time is Nostradamus; we get to talkin' about that feller.  In more recent history, such claims of psychic power have come from people like Uri Geller, Miss Cleo, and John Edward. (Spoiler alert - we $h!t on their crap)  

Arthur Edward Waite was not only an occultist, but also a manager for Horlicks.  Enjoy stories about Tarot cards, fortune telling, and yummy malted recipes.

Proper Malted Milk Biscuits
Reference  https://cookpad.com/ke/recipes/354100-proper-malted-milk-biscuits

Take 125 grams butter  (½ C)
Get 88 grams caster sugar (1/2C)
Get 1 egg
Make ready 45 grams malt extract  (1/4 C)
Prepare 370 grams self raising flour (3 C)
Get 3/4 tsp salt

Cream the butter and sugar.  Beat in the egg   ( Mixing  sounds).    Add malt and beat together.
Add the flour & salt if using and mix into a ball or a half spoonful.
Put dough in the fridge for 30-60 minutes. I left mine for 60. This makes the dough easier to roll out.  10 minutes before you roll out the dough Pre heat oven to 150° & line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.  Roll out the dough to the thickness of a coin and cut out in rectangular shapes or squares.  Place on the tray and bake for 15-20 minutes until edges go lightly brown. Mine took 18 minutes.   Leave to cool a while on the tray before transferring to a cooling rack .

Malted Waffles

cooking spray
2 cups all-purpose flour
5 tablespoons malted milk powder
2 tablespoons corn meal
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 ¼ tablespoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
2 eggs, beaten
¼ cup butter, melted
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Step 1
Preheat a waffle iron according to manufacturer's instructions. Spray the inside of the waffle iron with cooking spray.
Step 2
Stir flour, milk powder, corn meal, sugar, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl. Whisk milk, eggs, butter, and vanilla extract together in a separate bowl; pour into flour mixture and stir just until batter is combined.
Step 3
Pour batter, working in batches, into the preheated waffle iron and cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes.

RJ and Elle dive into Crystallomancy, Divination by scrying a crystal. The most famous example of this is the Crystal Ball. RJ discusses the earliest written accounts of crystal gazing, the Druid's Beryl Ball, and Lord of the Rings. RJ discusses the science of how crystal balls might work and why people might believe they are magic. In the Extra Spell RJ discusses the very real dangers crystal balls pose if you leave them uncovered. The superstition surrounding Bloodstone, and also the fushigi and contact juggling.  Afterward Elle performs a reading for Seattle using her personal crystal ball. 

Ross and Carrie each pay strangers to tell them whether they are psychic, based on very little information, then try to make sense of the reports they receive as a result. Who will have more psychic abilities: Ross or Carrie? Can Ross smell the future? Will Carrie finally be able to communicate with dads?

RJ tells the story of America's first female police officers and their role in taking down New York's tea houses, despite their popularity. After describing the detective drama, Elle does a tasseomancy reading using a Starbucks frappuccino. 

Tasseomancy, Divination by reading tea leaves or coffee grounds. RJ discusses the psychic tea houses of New York and the culture of reading tea leaves during the great depression. The illegality of fortune-telling meant fortune-tellers had to be sly to get by. Elle performs a traditional tea reading using a zodiac teacup and plate. 

It’s one of the most popular methods of divination that exists today. This magical practice has left deep trenches in the cultural zeitgeist. So much so, that it seems to have become mythology in its own right. It has inspired video games like Persona, and table top games like Yu-Gi-Oh. I’m talking, of course, about Cartomancy. 

Divination through the use of playing cards. One cartomancer stands out among the rest. A french psychic by the name of Marie Anne Lenormand. 

RJ Walker and Elle Alder explore the ways Magic has shaped human history and culture, covering a different "mancy" in each episode. RJ challenges Elle to perform cartomancy using Lenormand's original method, then challenges her to perform cartomancy using a deck of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. 

Ross and Carrie pay some online psychics to channel their energy as the psychics drink tea and then read the patterns they find in the remaining leaves at the bottom of the cup. It’s the age-old fortune telling strategy known as tea leaf reading, and it has finally hit the internet! Plus, they learn how to do their own readings, thanks to the Salem Witch Museum.
