    RIP Jules.  Show #1300 in the books.  Don’t piss off #jimmybutler ever.  @miamiheat end Game 2 on 22-9 run and are up 2-0 on @celtics in #nbaplayoffs 111-105 last night. #grantwilliams poked the bear.
    @nuggets need to keep pressure on @lakers tonight.
    #rip #jimbrown #halloffame career with @clevelandbrowns plus phenomenal #lacrosse player for @cusemlax too.  Retired from #nfl at 29.
    @umichlacrosse played tough today but lost to #1 @dukemlax 15-8.
    @mets refuse to lose!  23-23.  Ready to go on a run.
    #aaronjudge going into today 7 #homeruns in last 7 games.  #aaronhicks @yankees career over.  Only owed $30.5M. Money not well spent.
    @vegasgoldenknights got it done in OT over @dallasstars 4-3 in #stanleycupplayoffs last night.
    @flapanthers trying to go up 2-0 on @canes tonight.
    @lomachenkovasiliy upsets @realdevinhaney tonight.

    JD TALKIN SPORTS #1113

    No spoilers but Season 5 of #cobrakai was not good. Too over the top this season.  @angushout thank you for your @nhl takes.  Agree that the @nhljets will be better off without a #captain this upcoming season. Time to change the culture.
    @yankeesrecaps always gives me the scoop on the latest @yankees games, stats & info.  Give him a follow.  #aaronjudge hits 60th #homerun and #giancarlostanton hits #ultimateslam down three to send Yanks to win 89 on season 9-8 over @pittsburghpirates last night.  Unbelievable.
    @mets get #grandslam from #franciscolindor and 37th by #petealonso and for first time since 1988 Mets are FORTY games over .500 can’t wait for the #mlbplayoffs to get here.  #nickchubb said he should of went down instead of scoring last TD for @clevelandbrowns vs @nyjets Sunday.  Jets had no timeouts & Browns could have run out the clock.  Oh well. Then Jets #punter #bradenmann wouldn’t have gotten #afc #specialteams player of the week.
    How about #raulrosasjr getting signed to @ufc contract last night by #danawhite at the age of 17.  Youngest #mma fighter ever signed by UFC. Rosas Jr said he will be #champion by 20.  Go for it!

    @mets 15-2 sign trading for #danielvogelbach and 73-39. Yes @scott13lv_ they have a better record than the @yankees who are 2-7 in August after losing to @davidshoup42 @mariners though #aaronjudge hit his 45th #homerun in the loss.
      @cardinals prospect #chandlerredmond FOUR HR’s and 11 RBI’s for @springfield_cardinals last night.
    @ravens going for @nfl record 21st straight preseason win tonight over #malikwillis & @titans tonight.  Like what I’ve seen from Willis.
    Congrats to @livestrongernyc @erocfitness & #briandaboll on the @nygiants beating the @patriots 23-21 on the last play of the game.  I have a new favorite player #runningback #sandroplatzgummer by way of #austria who plans to go to medical school after his career is over.
    Love @nba retiring #6 jersey of @celtics great #billrussell and someone has to tell me how #thefinisher tastes at the #iowastatefair for only $10.

    30 | Baseball as a Mediated Latinidad and Latino Threat Narratives in MLB with Dr. Jennifer L. Rudolph

    30 | Baseball as a Mediated Latinidad and Latino Threat Narratives in MLB with Dr. Jennifer L. Rudolph

    Miguel welcomed Dr. Jennifer L. Rudolph to the podcast to discuss Baseball as Mediated Latinidad, including racist Latino Threat Narratives in baseball that are a microcosm of US white supremacy society.

    Dr. Rudolph is an Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies at Connecticut College and author of Baseball as Mediated Latinidad: Race, Masculinity, Nationalism, and performance of Identity. Dr. Rudolph's research interests include U.S. Latino expressive cultures, Latino identity formation, transnationalism, urban studies, and teaching Spanish to heritage/native speakers.

    First, Miguel asked Dr. Rudolph why it was essential for her to analyze new forms of media, such as social media, for her book, Baseball as Mediated Latinidad? Second, Miguel also asked Jennifer about her opening chapter, "La crema de Sammy Sosa," and her analysis of legendary Dominican and former Chicago Cubs star Sammy Sosa. Specifically, Miguel asked Jennifer to explain how specific events tied to Sosa's career and post-career intersected with race, class, and gender issues.

    Next, Miguel and Dr. Rudolph discussed the controversy regarding Marc Anthony singing the national anthem at the 2013 all-star game and how it was another example of Anthropologist Leo Chavez's Latino Threat Narrative. Miguel and Dr. Rudolph also discuss how the World Baseball Classic and the 2017 Puerto Rico National team connect to nationalism, race, assimilation, and masculinity. For example, Dr. Rudolph discussed how her analysis of the Puerto Rican national team showed the contradictions between Latinos perceived as threats by white fans instead of representing nationalistic pride to Puerto Rican fans.

    Furthermore, Miguel asked Jennifer about the connections between baseball, language, and racialized capitalism. Lastly, Miguel asked Jennifer about her chapter on Major League Baseball's development, labor structure, and practices at their academias in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. Dr. Rudolph summarized the system and explained how they resemble the history of US imperialism and colonialism in Latin America.

    To end the podcast, Miguel gives you his Molotov MVP for episode 30, the legendary Pittsburgh Pirate and Hall of Famer, Roberto Clemente. Tragically, Roberto Clemente passed away in a plane crash 49 years ago today, on New Years' Eve 1972, while providing h

    Mullets, Chipotle, Thumbs, and Junk

    Mullets, Chipotle, Thumbs, and Junk

    We give Javy and Francisco thumbs up for their right to not like being booed, and reiterate our official stance that although fans have the right to boo, it is really bad form and should be avoided except in a few very specific instances. In our boyfriend report, Andrew Stevenson’s mullet gets some press and ups his qHAR, Yoshi Tsutsugo finds comfort in Chipotles, and Iglesias is released to make room for Junk. Four teams and the League itself  institute COVID vaccination requirements for non-player employees, and some long term staff would rather leave than get the shot. Recent outbreaks beg the question is a player’s “personal choice”  to not be vaccinated harmful to their team’s chance in the playoffs? Oracle Park food concession workers vote to strike over lack of  COVID protections, among other issues.

    In the Police Blotter, we are angrier and more deeply disappointed  all the time at Jonah Keri, who just pled guilty to more than a dozen domestic assault charges. The Nats model good behavior by releasing Starlin Castro at the end of his suspension, and taking responsibility for bringing him on in the first place.  The Mets acting GM, who replaced the GM they fired for sending inappropriate communications to female journalists, was just arrested for DUI. Pitcher Josiah Gray gives back by donating autographed cleats for a fundraising auction at Adopt a Minor League Player. That same organization is raising funds for Somerset Patriots players, the Yankees AA affiliate, who lost cars and equipment and  other belongings when Ida caused extreme flooding at their ballpark last week.  Still waiting for the Yankees to pony up.

    This weekend saw Baseball for All’s annual Maria Pepe series, hosted by NY Girls Baseball, and groundbreaker Maria was there, seeing the change she brought to the sport. Bryan Ruby, of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, comes out as the one and only openly gay man in professional baseball. It’s  2021, people.

    Jose Ramirez’s necklace, though.

    Mets players with the thumbs down.   Don't try that crap in the Bronx.  Disgraceful even if they said they were joking.   They weren't joking.
    Jake Paul congrats on going eight rounds boxing last night.   Tyron Woodley could you have been more aggressive last night.   That was definitely a knockdown of Paul.  The ropes saved him.   But I didn't think it was a split decision.   Woodley wasn't active enough in any round.
    NFL preseason finally over.  Get on to the games that count.
