The squad dons their berets and travels back to the 60s to set their gaze on Colton's pick, EYES WITHOUT A FACE (1960). Is that fat Robert Downey Jr. in the leading role? Or, possibly the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" theme in the film's score? And what about all of those "best of" Letterboxd lists? Listen to find out if we award this film a NAY, OKAY, YAY, or SLAY!

INSIDE, THE STRANGERS & THE STRANGERS: PREY AT NIGHT Episode 52: Home Sweet Home Invasion (Home Invasion!)

    WoHo's!

This week we looked at the French home/mom invasion classic, INSIDE, and the 2008 American cult favorite, THE STRANGERS. We also speak pretty briefly about the sequel, as Mom only liked one scene.

Please get in touch with your favorite Home Invasion flicks! What's scarier: a really specific motive or no motive at all? What is the limit of references you can make to other films to still be original? What references did we miss?

Don't forget to check out our episodes on THE RING (Season 1, ep. 7) and FUNNY GAMES (Season2, ep.1)!

We'd also love to shout you out on the podcast. Let us know who you are and where we are. We'd love to say hi!

Next time our theme is slashers and we are going to watch Season 4, Eps 1-4 of SLASHER from Canada and LAKE BODOM/BODOM from Finland. Next next time we are going to watch Season 4, Eps 5-8 of SLASHER and DREAMHOME, from Hong Kong.

    MARTYRS (2008 & 2015) Episode 2: Can I Get a Witness? (France / Canada)

    MARTYRS (2008 & 2015) Episode 2: Can I Get a Witness? (France / Canada)

    Hey there, WoHo's!

In our second episode, we explore the French/Canadian film, MARTYRS, a classic in body horror/pain porn (but please don't call it torture porn, as Mom originally did). We also watched the 2015 American remake so you don't have to. Wow. What happened there?

Pascal Laugier, the director of the original, according to IMDB, has stated he was "Inspired by Hostel (2005), but instead of making a movie about suffering, he wanted to make a movie about pain". How very French, non?

How do we properly classify this film? Is it actually two films in one? Is it akin to exploitation films of the 70's? Is it, in any way, a home invasion film? Some have stated it is a paradigm example of the New French Extremity movement, while others simply classify it as a body horror film. We'll get into it!

At the suggestion of friend, friend of the show, and WoHo, Quinn has suggested, Mom and Mac introduce themselves and talk about what horror does for them individually and as a family.

    Sleep Paralysis?

    Sleep Paralysis?

"She began to laugh her raspy laugh and then she stepped forward and seemed to move into and then through him. He could feel her dark energy invade his..."

A quote from today's first story, a tale about a man who moves to restart his life in Alaska and suffers from what he first believes is nothing more than sleep paralysis but then he soon begins to suspect something paranormal. The next tale takes us to 17th century for the Loudun possessions. Massive demonic manifestation or political persecution? And then Lynze shares two particularly scary listener tales.

    Opening Sumerian protection spell (adapted):
"Whether thou art a ghost that hath come from the earth, or a phantom of night that hath no home… or one that lieth dead in the desert… or a ghost unburied… or a demon or a ghoul… Whatever thou be until thou art removed… thou shalt find here no water to drink… Thou shalt not stretch forth thy hand to our own… Into our house enter thou not. Through our fence, breakthrough thou not… we are protected though we may be frightened. Our life you may not steal, though we may feel SCARED TO DEATH."

Happy one year anniversary to Minki and Tracy as cohosts of this podcast and Happy New Year to all you OFS listeners! Or as the French say it, "Bonne année!" Take a trip back into horror film history as the hosts talk about how the French were a little behind other countries' horror output up until French film director, actor, novelist and pornography filmmaker Jean Rollin released a plethora of exploitation vampire-based films in the 70's and early 80's. This poetic film about the love between two females — one alive and one living dead, recently brought back to life by chemical waste spilling near her tomb — is probably his most notable and as Minki and Tracy agree: a decently entertaining film, if you're not put off by the obligatory nudity.

EP 18: We Are The Flesh (2016)

EP 18: We Are The Flesh (2016)

Tracy and Minki watched a porn on Mother’s Day...or so it seems. That’s right—these dedicated hosts ditched their moms to watch and discuss this Mexican horror. There is definitely lots of nudity, close-up shots of genitalia and graphic sex scenes in this unique film. Oh wait, there was also some murder and cannibalism, but definitely less of that in this art-house, surreal erotic horror. Nice camera and lighting work, mixed with a solid portrayal of a mad man who has a very strange desire to return to the safety and warmth of his mother’s womb (HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!) should make up for the strange plot and excessively long scenes, but...not so much. For the most part, this movie doesn’t live up to its name...as a horror. Though, maybe the word “Flesh” was more indicative of all the nakedness. So, tune in to hear them recount this dreamlike, or rather, nightmarish movie.

    EP 13: RAW (2016)

    EP 13: RAW (2016)

Have you ever been so disgusted by a horror movie you passed out or vomited? Doubtful. But, apparently this cannibal, coming-of-age, horror drama made people do just that. So, Tracy and Minki had to make a trip to the theater and check it out. Given they got away without puking up their chicken tenders and tater tots, they think it was just PR, but they still enjoyed this french flick anyhow. They run through a bunch of movies that had the same reputation of needing a barf bag in lieu of a popcorn bag and they both share a couple of movie scenes that, at the very least, left a personal memory of total discomfort for them. So, if you don’t like reading subtitles and/or if you don’t think you can watch a young girl eat raw meat, take a few bites out of a couple people, or get her bikini waxed from a very close view, you should probably just listen to the hosts talk about it all instead. And if you don’t want them to spoil it, go check out this beautifully directed movie first and then come back and share in the discussion. Have an opinion about the movie...episode...podcast...Minki’s voice? Write us!
