AI Inventor Appeal Dismissed, Raises Concerns on Trade Secrets

AI Inventor Appeal Dismissed, Raises Concerns on Trade Secrets
Good morning from OWITH.ai: the podcast that gives you only what's important to hear in the AI and tech world. In today's episode, we have some interesting news to share with you. Let's get started!## The UK Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal by the Artificial Inventor Project, a group seeking to obtain patents for inventions created by artificial intelligence (AI). The court ruled that AI is not a natural person and, therefore, cannot be considered an inventor. This decision has raised concerns about AI-generated inventions becoming trade secrets instead of being disclosed publicly, especially in the field of AI drug discovery. However, appeals are pending in several countries, and the project's chief hopes that lawmakers will extend protection to encourage the use of AI in research and development. In a separate development, a Japanese government panel has suggested that training AIs on copyright-protected works may constitute a copyright violation.## Ethereum's gains in 2023 have been overshadowed by Bitcoin's performance and the rise of Solana. One of the main challenges facing Ethereum is high gas fees, which make simple transactions unviable. While layer-2 solutions have made the blockchain more affordable, they also introduce complexity for casual crypto users. Ryan Selkis, founder of Messari, believes that Ethereum is losing some of its luster due to the availability of Ethereum substitutes and institutional interest in Bitcoin as digital gold. However, Selkis also acknowledges that competition in the smart contract industry was inevitable. Despite these challenges, Ethereum still holds the position of the second-most-important blockchain.## Figma's sale to Adobe fell through, and it is unlikely to find another buyer willing to pay $20 billion for the company. Adobe and Figma mutually called off the transaction due to a lack of regulatory approval. Figma provides creative collaboration software as an alternative to Adobe's offerings and has grown significantly since September 2022. While some speculate that Figma could go public in the future, finding another buyer willing to pay near $20 billion is unlikely. Adobe now has $10 billion in cash that it could potentially use for stock buybacks.## The 2023 Stratechery Year in Review reflects on the past year and highlights the most popular and important posts on Stratechery. Two major topics dominated the year: AI and the evolving content landscape. The review provides insights into the impact of AI on existing companies, the strategies of big tech companies, and its potential to reshape industries like Hollywood. The evolving content landscape was another key theme, with discussions on Netflix's strategy, the shift towards a unified content business model, and the challenges faced by traditional media companies. Regulation and its implications for technology companies were also important topics in 2023.## Incorporating ESG metrics into CEO pay plans is becoming more common among S&P 500 companies. A new report from the Conference Board reveals that 54% of these companies now include climate metrics in their CEO pay plans, up from 25% in 2021. Diversity and inclusion metrics have also increased, with 75% of S&P 500 companies including them in their pay plans. Large companies are more likely to report the use of ESG metrics in their pay packages. The report concludes that the ESG backlash has not deterred companies from integrating ESG-related performance metrics into their incentive plans for CEOs and senior executives.## OpenAI's GPT-4 performed better than GPT-3.5 but still struggled to distinguish between AI and human responses in a recent Turing test. While GPT-4 scored higher than its predecessor, it only correctly identified humans in 63% of inte

Chris Skinner: Power of People with Bitcoin, Power of State is too Great!

Chris Skinner is known as one of the most influential people in technology, and as an independent commentator on fintech through his blog, The Finanser.com. His latest book (sixteenth!) is called Doing Digital. He is Chair of Nordic Future Innovation, is a non-executive director of 11:FS and on the advisory boards of many FinTech and financial firms. Mr. Skinner has been an advisor to the United Nations, the White House, the World Bank and the World Economic Forum. He is a visiting lecturer with Cambridge University, as well as, a TEDx speaker. In recent years, he has been voted one of the UK’s foremost fintech observers by The Telegraph and one of the most influential people in financial technology by the Wall Street Journal’s Financial News and Thomson Reuters. Chris is also a successful children's author and co-founder of The Portrait Foundation, a non-profit platform to encourage children and the arts.

    1. Let’s start with the recent crash in crypto, in your blog you state that you believe the end-game will be a hybrid model of CBDCs, stablecoins and cryptocurrencies. I found is fascinating that you state that too many people believe these currencies are all about HODLing (in the crypto slang it’s about keeping them as an investment) instead of what currencies are really about, which is allowing the exchange of value to buy and sell products and services. It’s all about creating currencies that work for value exchange in a networked world.
Would you like an opportunity to give this more depth for those just beginning to invest in cryptocurrency and please define CBDC (central back digital currency)?
    2. What is your take on a global coin and how this would affect governments if it’s realized? A coin that can be traded anywhere, anytime, in real-time with anyone.
    3. Your book, Digital Human, explores the transformations that are sweeping through all spheres of life: the domination of global digital giants; the advent of new financial structures (FinTech); the disruption brought about by Bitcoin; the rise of robots; and the fall of banks.
A standout line from your book: not only will everyone on the planet be connected digitally, they can be raised out of poverty through inclusion. Can we dive into your thoughts on blockchain, cryptocurrency and how this may level the playing field for those in poverty?
    4. Digital for Good looks at everything from how banking plays a role in the climate emergency through the FinTech world using technology to overcome issues of inequality and inclusion.
I’d like to understand this intersection, can you share your vision for Fintech in lifting us out of this global climate crisis and possibly helping marginalized lives?

How do you de-mystify and de-stigmatise blockchain for businesses? What are the nuances that work so well with SaaS that make it uniquely perfect for companies moving from Web2 to Web3?

And the recent downturn in the market, how did that affect conversations with your clients?

Trey Pezzetti: VaynerNFT Building Partnerships that Lead with Empathy & Education

Trey Pezzetti: VaynerNFT Building Partnerships that Lead with Empathy & Education

Trey serves as a Director of Client Partnerships at Vayner NFT. He focuses on educating his clients on the advantages of NFTs and the business impact Web3 space can have on their relationships with consumers. He leads his clients in all stages of their NFT journey, ensuring authentic entry to the space and building long-term strategic NFT programs. Prior to joining VaynerNFT, he worked as a team lead at an Artificial Intelligence consulting firm and spent 3 years helping build DraftKings marketing partnerships. Trey is focused on putting his clients in a position to take advantage of the next generation of the internet.

Building impact in the Web3 space requires a ton of EQ and AQ and Gary Vaynerchuck and all his various businesses are the blueprint of making sure that the unattractive parts of Web 2 do not seep into the company culture or the client relationships. So it is imperative that the people he entrusts also carry this determination to build an empathetic Web3. You are tasked with all phases of a project with the client but the authentic entry and onboarding process really sets the tone for their experience. What parts of your history, be it upbringing, school or work experience prepared you most for this?

I often speak on this show about road-maps and the rug pulls that are unsuccessful in meeting any part of the promises made. So what excited me about having this conversation with you specifically is that you are achieving this at the highest level in the NFT ecosystem with VaynerNFT.  Part of your role at VaynerNFT is building long-term strategic programs. And with very high profile clients. I myself did this in my tenure in white glove hospitality and know how discerning this client can be.

How do you navigate delivering on the vision of a client? And on a more granular level, how do you build out utility that not only serves the client but is attainable?

Can you give an example or case study of a client either at your time at Draftkings or VaynerNFT that allowed you to break new ground to create something that you yourself didn’t see at the start but turned into magic?

The VaynerNFT model really creates an open forum for diversity and empathy. These are core tenants for my show. If I’m not representing that in the speakers and the content I create, then I’m not solving for the future. What do you see for the future in terms of trends and how you and VaynerNFT can possibly solve for the bigger picture?

Are there any projects you are working on that you are especially excited about?

Are there brands or areas of businesses that you are dreaming about creating NFT projects with?

Identify your portfolio with NFT purchases. We present ourselves on social media differently, so why not in your wallet! We embody different personalities, professionally, personally, artistically, politically, with family, different social norms based on environment and who you are with.

Circular economy with NFTs and musicians.

Left field question: are you open to partnerships with creators that come to you with ideas, say through VeeFriends, Discord channels or DAOs?

    Catch another great episode!

Victoria Fuller: Playboy Playmate NFT License from Hugh Hefner

Victoria Fuller has always been an artist, from the time she grew up in Santa Barbara, CA. and during her time as a Playboy Playmate where she was the centerfold in 1996 and in the year 2000. Victoria became the only artist ever licensed by Playboy. She traveled as a bunny and a professional artist in galleries around the world. Victoria became reality royalty after the Amazing Race, Girls Next Door, Kendra show, Celebrity Fear Factor, Battle of the Network Reality Stars. And she ran a licensing company called American Pop.

After Hugh Hefner passed away along with the onset of Covid, Victoria needed to use her creative talent to survive. She found NFTs in 2017 and formed Gatefold Labs in 2021.

As Founder and CEO of Gatefolds, she is following her dreams of transcending art into a global ecosystem and leaving no bunny behind as she shares their bond while helping them control their Intellectual Property with blockchain technology.

    1. What is the process of going from canvas to a digital asset like an NFT? Feel free to get granular here.
    2. Do you feel pressure or empowerment as the only artist with the trademark to produce the Rogue Bunnies?
    3. How are you using this niche to reinvent the playmates?
    4. All these ladies are modern day entrepreneurs. Their lives likely do not resemble that Playmate era, how are they using this new platform? Is it complimenting their personal businesses?
    5. I understand you are onboarding each and every one of them, this is a different job than being the artist or the Founder and CEO of Gatefolds, do you like this part?
    6. In the NFT world, we talk about road maps and utilities. Can you share your overall goals, if there is a social good component and any perks for those that purchase an NFT Rogue Bunny?
    7. We will be having a Launch Party with all the Rogue Bunnies together on April 15. Presale 15 and sale 17. It will be streamed Live on the Tiatro Network on the BitcoinSV Blockchain. It is a rare opportunity to see all the NFT Bunnies, hear their stories and party virtually with them. What is the date for our Launch party?? How many Rogue bunnies will come?

    About Divi

Established in 2017, the Divi team have been focused on solving the issues of usability and accessibility to cryptocurrencies that prevent mainstream adoption.

We realized early on that the industry wasn’t equipped to scale with the demand and popularity it experienced. Hence our philosophy to create software solutions that make cryptocurrency easier to use and access for users of all levels of technical expertise.

Starting with the feature that attracts most people to the space - earning rewards, the team developed the first and only genuinely one-click masternode software that enables users of any skill level to begin earning rewards in an instance. With the ability to be launched on any device from a home computer to mobile phone, registered users can earn with Divi.

We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved thus far and it is really just the beginning. We hope that you will join us on this journey!

Along with your role to simplify technology, I’d like to breakdown a few topics for my audience that are in the learning stages:

Blockchain: your definition and why you think it’s a game-changer for currency and commerce

    What is a node?

Smart Wallets: the design of a smart wallet and why they might not all be created the same.  And is that problematic? Enterprise integrations of the Divi Wallet.

You developed the Divi Wallet and implemented a reward system into it.  Do you think the Web3 adopters enjoy and respond better psychologically to adding a gaming component?

How do you make community accessible in platforms like Discord and Telegram.  Are they a necessity to the NFT world?

Have they made your product offerings more robust by having this constant touchpoint with the consumer?

As a DJ and music producer, are you planning to use your MP3 files in the NFT space as product to mint or a utility for collaboration with other artists?

Jason, your early exposure to hack-athons for social good implanted the idea behind your NFT model having a purpose, how did you use code to do this? And how did you build it into your project?

What is and how is a generative collection built?

What is the social good piece built into your collection?

Will you continue to iterate on the Dreamy Geeks or are you creating other collections?

Some NFT artists use Discord channels to build communities.  Are you using this site or some other way or a combination? And what has been most effective?

    1. Is it a barrier of entry to have to create a community there?
    2. Is it necessary for a 1:1 artist to have a coder/developer? Is this a barrier to entry?

Give a listen to this episode, Brian Fanzo bought a Dreamy Geek NFTs on his show too.

Abraxas Higgins: The Real Currency is Community. Influence, Brands and NFTs

Abraxas Higgins: The Real Currency is Community. Influence, Brands and NFTs

Abraxas Higgins is a thought leader, impact influencer and social audio strategist. He is the UK’s largest and most notable Social Audio creator, boasting a Clubhouse following of 460,000. He’s also become a leading Social Audio Strategist, offering consultation and ideation sessions for companies and high-net-worth individuals. He’s worked with multiple brands to date such as SXSW, Adobe, Ted Baker and Amazon Prime Video.

And the world's first social audio influencer! Hello Clubhouse!

So, Abraxas, 7 years in asset management at BlackRock, the largest global asset management company.  Many would say you have landed in the best place, how could you ever leave that? What shifted in your mind at that 7 year mark?

    What motivated you to jump?

When did you see the connection of building your social audio community that cared about fashion and the subsequent brand collaborations Ted Baker and others? Was it an AHA moment?

Moved to LA as a digital strategist for a rapper, David Sabastian. What were you doing in this role, was it scary, did it feel natural, or were you completely breaking new ground?

Leaning into fashion, you represent British luxury clothing brand, Ted Baker and you manifested the IWC Schaffhausen collaboration, can you share that story about the watch brand?

    Left field question:

So if someone can buy an IWC brand NFT they can establish and authenticate their purchase.  Utilities (or perks) can be created to further the buyer experience. This can create added loyalty and exclusivity, especially in the area of luxury brands. Will you bridge NFT’s with them? Create utility and experiences with IWC or any of the brands you represent?

Conversation about Crypto Punks and Bored Apes, generative projects.

Are you representing other creators and NFT artists to help secure brand deals? Or is it more about highlighting them on social audio?

Working with blind people or those with disabilities to immerse them into community in social audio.

I know as a podcaster I’m thinking about the MP3/RSS files becoming NFTS and how that looks for audio community and utility. What are you looking to create in social audio and the NFT space? And is it why you have a Rally creator coin?

What’s next for Abraxas? Are you expanding your offerings with your existing brand deals, or do you have new projects you can share?

Podcast? What's it called and what will be the focus?

On a lighter note, I noticed on Twitter that you post about food. Are you a vegan and do you enjoy cooking? What are you having for lunch today?
