    90. The UpStairs Lounge Arson Attack

On Sunday, June 24, 1973, a gay bar in New Orleans was intentionally set ablaze, killing 32 people and injuring another 15. Fifty years later, despite ample evidence, no arrests have ever been made.

In this episode, we’re taking a look at the tragic events of the UpStairs Lounge arson attack, the pervasive discrimination and homophobia evident in the aftermath, and renewed efforts to locate four of the unclaimed bodies of victims recklessly buried in an unmarked grave.

    Pride: Gay's the Word

To celebrate London Pride 1st July, we share a tour through queer London history, anchoring at Gay’s the Word, a Bloomsbury book shop that has played a pivotal role in queer life and history.

    We’ll think about…

    • the systems that have oppressed,
    • how oppression can stoke the spirit of activism,
    • unusual alliances in times of struggle,
    • how a bookstore can serve as beacon and safe harbor,
    • a specific story of mutual support that is nearly impossible to believe, and
    • the struggle for identity and the collective good.

Sushi Scuffles, Queer Quandaries, and Everything In Between

Sushi Scuffles, Queer Quandaries, and Everything In Between

In this hilarious yet insightful episode of "Not Well," hosts Bobby and Jim dive into a variety of thought-provoking and entertaining topics, exploring everything from Bobby's trip to Charleston, the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ couples trying to adopt, to the ongoing issues surrounding gun control and mental health in the United States.

Bobby kicks off the episode by recounting his recent trip to Charleston, a city that he likens to a southern frat house with a dark history. He discusses his run-in with a flight attendant and the discomfort he felt while exploring the city's past. Bobby also shares a wild story about a fight that broke out at a sushi restaurant bar, which led to him nearly vomiting up his sushi.

Switching gears, Jim recounts his recent change of luck, having met two attractive guys and attending a Betty Who concert on a whim. The duo then delves into the complicated subject of adoption, discussing the high costs and barriers faced by queer couples like Jim's nail tech Carmen and her partner. They touch on the hypocrisy of outlawing abortions while making adoption a challenging and expensive process, wondering what the solution could be.

The conversation takes a turn as Bobby and Jim discuss the ongoing violence in Mexico and the tension between Canada, the United States, and Mexico. They reminisce about their childhoods, confessing to snooping on their parents and pondering whether their parents snooped on them too.

The hosts find themselves discussing the awkward experiences of being nude in locker rooms with older men who have grooming issues. They then tackle the topic of Pride Night in the NHL, criticizing the organization for failing to address players opting out even though it's a charity event.

Addressing a serious topic, Bobby and Jim discuss the recent mass shooting in a Nashville, Tennessee school. They express concern about the fact that the shooter was transgender and worry about the potential increase in attacks against trans people as a result. The duo laments the lack of progress on gun control and the shortcomings of the American system, touching on issues like poverty-stricken individuals joining the military and returning with untreated mental health problems due to the inadequate healthcare system.

Jim opens up about his childhood trauma and the lack of boundaries he experienced growing up, wondering how it has affected his mental health. The episode concludes with a segment called "Sundries," where Jim vents about gym bros constantly posting their workouts on social media, and Bobby shares his annoyance with people who make a big move, only to flood their Facebook feeds with inspirational quotes about taking chances.

This engaging and candid episode of "Not Well" covers a wide range of topics, from personal experiences to societal issues. Bobby and Jim tackle these subjects with humor and empathy, making for an enjoyable and thought-provoking listen.

Drag Queens, Drive-Thrus & Disaster: The Ultimate 'Not Well' Journey

Drag Queens, Drive-Thrus & Disaster: The Ultimate 'Not Well' Journey

Welcome to this week's hilarious and disastrous episode of "Not Well" with your favorite dynamic duo, Bobby and Jim. Starting off with a recording mishap, this episode is full of chaos, laughter, and a hint of existential crisis.

Fresh from a boozy St. Patrick's Day happy hour, Bobby decides an edible is just what the doctor ordered. As they realize their recording mishap, the conversation turns to Bobby's upcoming trip to a gay campground called Camp Buckwood in Indiana. Jim warns Bobby to watch out for Mike Pence and "Mother" while he's there, and they banter about milkmaids and lead paint makeup.

Jim spirals into a deep, dark place as he laments the difficulty of meeting new people in Columbus. He's convinced that everyone moves away and lives amazing lives, but Bobby reminds him that life is monotonous. They discuss astronomical bar tabs and why they should pay for themselves instead of a group of people.

The conversation shifts to old women talk shows like Drew Barrymore's, with Jim insisting that she's old. Bobby reminds him that maybe he's just getting old, too. Speaking of mortality, they share their current adult situations about choosing their end-of-life options.

The topic takes a sharp turn into the realm of student council and singing for old people at the nursing home. Bobby admits he's actually scared of old people and special needs individuals, while Jim shares his own nursing home horror story involving cleaning old people after bathroom breaks.

They reminisce about the good old days when Nina West and her drag mother, Virginia West, were regulars in Columbus. They even discuss a new restaurant in Grandview where Virginia now works, and marvel at her crazy life and sleep schedule.

The episode takes an emotional turn when "Mike" calls in from Florida, mourning his friend who died in Cleveland. He talks about his husband, a lawyer who spends too much money. Bobby thinks he sounds hot, but Jim thinks he sounds sad.

Jim goes off the rails, discussing bachelorette parties infiltrating obscure gay bars and how it's offensive, but also acknowledging the need for equality and safe spaces. This leads to a tailspin about his desire to move and feeling trapped in his current life.

The show takes a humorous turn as they play a Twitter post from a local Columbus man who wants to be humiliated by other men. Jim hits the metaphorical eject button, insisting no straight guy will ever like him, and Bobby suggests he write poetry again to reconnect with himself.

They wrap up with sundries, with Bobby talking about bad service at fast food drive-throughs and Jim discussing Gen Z dressing up like '90s kids. In the end, "Not Well" delivers a wild ride full of laughter, nostalgia, and a touch of introspection.

They discuss the importance of defining success and how it varies for each individual. The hosts talk about how social media has affected the younger generation's perception of success and how it can lead to unhealthy obsession and addiction.

Do we know you? Yea...You Touched My Husbands D*ck Last Weekend

Do we know you? Yea...You Touched My Husbands D*ck Last Weekend

NOT WELL / GAY PODCAST / EPISODE 186

Remember last episode when we were going to go out and "get in trouble" - well we did and you won't believe what happened.

On the episode of Not Well, we talk about idiot Republicans, Harry Potter,  gross YouTube podcasters, conservative people, fat alcohol syndrome, and being fat in general.

    Some Highlights (or lowlights)

Marjorie Taylor Greene made a State of the Union stunt, carrying a white balloon in reference to Republican criticism of Joe Biden's handling of a Chinese surveillance balloon. However, the balloon saga ended when it was shot down off the Carolinas on Saturday.

The phenomenon of "sick zoning" is when a partner takes care of their sick significant other, resulting in the partner being seen as weak and unappealing. This dynamic can create a caregiver and dependent relationship, where the partner who is not sick takes on a more nurturing role. The caregiver may become preoccupied with the sick partner's well-being and only see them as someone who needs help, rather than an equal partner. This can lead to a loss of attraction and desire, as well as a lack of emotional and physical intimacy in the relationship.

Allie Beth Stuckey is a conservative commentator, author, and podcaster who aims to help young women think critically and biblically about the world around them. She is known for her book "You're Not Enough (& That's Okay): Escaping the Toxic Culture of Self-Love," which challenges society's popular cultural myths and offers truthful alternatives found in the Bible. Stuckey started her career in 2016 with a Facebook page called "The Conservative Millennial" and has since contributed to various media outlets, including Fox News and BlazeTV. She currently hosts the podcast "Relatable," where she analyzes culture, news, politics, and theology from a Christian, conservative perspective.

Several thousand gay men set off on a week-long vacation cruise, organized by Atlantis Events on the Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas ship, through the Caribbean. The cruise promised guests a week of social mixers, late-night dance parties, and performances from entertainers like Todrick Hall and Billy Porter. The trip can be an annual pilgrimage for many gay men who want to unwind in a fun and sexually liberated setting with members of their community. However, guests were warned about a new policy that prohibited them from posting anything sexually explicit on social media, or risk being asked to leave the ship without a refund. The policy was created by Atlantis Events and Royal Caribbean following previous incidents where explicit videos filmed by passengers went viral.

Our upcoming shows, which will be taped in Park City, promise to be full of fun guests, interesting ideas, and overall craziness that will leave you entertained and informed. So stay tuned, and get ready to join us for an adventure you won't forget!

Driving and Wine-ing with the Pringles Can Lady: Navigating Chinese Balloons and Nervous Breakdowns

Driving and Wine-ing with the Pringles Can Lady: Navigating Chinese Balloons and Nervous Breakdowns

On this episode of Not, Well, Bobby and Jim dive into the hot-button issue of police shootings and question whether it's more of a cop problem than a race problem. With the endless stream of incidents making headlines, the guys can't help but wonder who is becoming cops and what is causing this apparent surge in excessive force. With their signature wit and humor, Bobby and Jim will have you laughing and thinking at the same time, as they tackle this important and timely topic. So sit back, grab a glass of wine (or a can of Pringles), and join the hilarious and thought-provoking conversation on this latest episode of Not, Well.

Additionally, Bobby and Jim delve into this hilarious yet concerning situation, questioning why this woman felt comfortable drinking wine from a Pringles can in the middle of a Walmart parking lot. They humorously ponder the idea of being banned from Walmart for drinking on the job. The guys also discuss the strange phenomenon of people drinking in public places

Recently, the news about the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down by a U.S. fighter jet off the coast of South Carolina had everyone talking. The comical take on the situation was no exception, as late-night comedians, such as Chelsea Handler and Seth Meyers, along with Jimmy Fallon and James Corden, all had a field day with the situation. Bobby and Jim also joined in on the fun, poking humor at the balloon incident. Not as funny as those late night comedians.

Comedians and late-night talk show hosts have had a field day with the recent news of the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down by a US fighter jet off the coast of South Carolina. Chelsea Handler kicked off her week hosting "The Daily Show" with a series of jokes about the incident. She quipped about President Biden, saying "Obama got to order the assassination of bin Laden, and all he gets to do is murder a bag of helium." and "And, as you heard, this balloon was the size of three buses. I love measuring things in buses." Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon, and James Corden also weighed in with their own witty comments about the balloon, with Meyers saying "The only way this balloon could have had a higher profile is if it had its own Instagram account." and Fallon jokingly saying "The balloon floated from Montana to South Carolina. Somehow it got across the country faster than someone flying Southwest." These comedians have certainly found a way to bring humor to a strange and unexpected situation.

We also talk about Bobby having a nervous breakdown that actually ended up being therapeutic, even though his therapist thinks he should be at a psychiatrist sooner rather than later. Bobby is also talking about his spending habits lately. He can't pass up a deal but he has to start...
