Dive into another steamy cup of "Coffee with Gays" as Blaine, Adam, and Ryan are back to spill the beans on the concept of 'Chosen Family' within the LGBTQ+ community. We count ourselves lucky for having supportive families, but we understand that's not everyone's reality. So, we've built our networks of love and support, our 'chosen families', and we want to share our insights with you.

From heartfelt stories (yes, Adam cries) to the hilarious adventures of Blaine trying to navigate getting accepted into the group, we delve into the unique dynamics of chosen families within our community. It's all about striking a balance and knowing when to hold on, and when to let go.

Staring Down 39: Like a Bedazzled Grim Reaper in a Pride Parade

Staring Down 39: Like a Bedazzled Grim Reaper in a Pride Parade

In this riveting solo episode of "Not Well," Bobby once again takes center stage, single-handedly steering the conversation with his blend of humor, vulnerability, and candid personal stories. While his co-host Jim is on a culinary escapade in Italy, Bobby is back home, sharing his unique perspective on life, all while his oven is busily baking a Chicken Divan.

Bobby embarks on this episode by revisiting his enlightening experience at Camp Buckwood, a nudist camp. While we've heard tales of his time there before, this episode unveils a new dimension to Bobby's journey that left him quite shaken. His visit to Camp Buckwood wasn't just a foray into nudism; it was a path to self-discovery, leading him to uncharted territories of vulnerability and acceptance.

Alongside his revelations from the nudist camp, Bobby delves into various facets of his life, from his fear of death as he approaches his 39th birthday, to his uncanny ability to pick out Scorpios from a crowd. The episode is punctuated with Bobby’s reflections on the gay community, sharing personal information and experiences, and how these interactions have helped shape his worldview.

The narrative takes a detour into Bobby's past, revealing tales of youthful indiscretion, a fight with a friend, and a victorious lawsuit against the city. Bobby also shares his struggle with unemployment following job loss and how this experience has influenced his current job and living situation.

Despite the heavy topics, Bobby ensures a light-hearted atmosphere with his passion for comedy and his aspirations to make people laugh. He navigates through his disappointments, particularly with his hockey team's recent misfortune, and encourages his listeners to embrace their feelings and share their stories on the podcast hotline.

As the episode winds down, Bobby's enthusiasm is palpable as he anticipates meeting his dream podcast guest in Pittsburgh. Eager to make the most of his upcoming Labor Day weekend trip, he asks his audience for travel recommendations and local insights.

Bobby concludes the episode by expressing his heartfelt appreciation for his loyal listeners and his deep love for hosting the podcast. In a touching moment, he acknowledges the impact their support has had on his journey and his drive to continue sharing stories and insights that resonate with others.
As this solo episode of "Not Well" comes to a close, Bobby leaves his audience with a renewed sense of camaraderie and the knowledge that, despite life's trials and tribulations, there's always a silver lining and a new discovery just waiting to be made.

How Grindr Ruins Gay Lives - Direct Explanation

How Grindr Ruins Gay Lives - Direct Explanation

Grindr and most online hookup apps and websites, including Match.com, and OkCupid do not provide a platform for healthy communication. All conversations eventually lead to abandonment, dismissal, disrespect, and often trauma.

Continuous exposure on those platforms takes away a sense of wholeness and innocence from many gay men and often turns them into aggressive jerks.  This is how many gay men who are compassionate and loving at the beginning become negative, angry, and upset after just a few months of using Grindr, Scruff, Growlr, or similar apps.

Staying away from Grindr and similar platforms is a must for anyone who is concerned about mental health and loving relationships.

The easiest way to understand Grindr's influence on gay relationships is to look at a popular communication framework called NVC (Non-Violent Communication). This model was designed for healthy communication that takes into account 4 elements:

    1. Observation.2. Feelings in regards to the observation.3. Needs that the person wants to meet.4. Request to correct the situation to meet those needs and validate the feelings.

Those four parts take into account the human need for compassion, understanding, and acceptance. Without those parts, every conversation becomes an injury, a wound, a trauma.

This video explains the dynamics of prioritizing sex over emotional connections and communication. Also, you will learn how to think about sex so that you create the most beautiful gay relationship that can last a lifetime!

What do you do when you're a married man with kids, you donate blood and then the clinic calls you in and tells you that you're HIV positive? Bob Blackford discusses what happened to him and how he negotiated his life - bringing him to where he is today.

Bob Blackford discusses how he felt after donating blood, only to have the clinic subsequently call him in to discuss  some "irregularities" that the testing had revealed.... then informing him that he was HIV positive.  This was when he was in the ministry, was married with kids and it was prior to meds being developed.  He basically heard a death sentence.  He had to not only tell his wife that he was HIV positive, but also that he had had some gay sexual experiences.  He describes how they negotiated that, managed to raise two daughters, wrote a book and then share the mic with his wife in telling their joint story to an International audience.  And he tells how feels to be in Palm Springs, living his authentic life today as a gay man.

Liz Massiah - Trailblazer Part 2

Liz Massiah - Trailblazer Part 2

There is no doubt that I cherish my time getting to know and learn from Liz Massiah.  She has been there and her influence has paved the way for a lot of what our community has achieved.

In this conversation, we discuss GALA's early roots and what came to be with the organization.  This led to a discussion regarding Delwin Vriend and the Supreme Court case that made it so people within our rainbow community could not be fired based on their sexuality.

Liz discusses a traumatic day in her life when she was removed from Womonspace and the lasting effect it has had on her.  But from that low point, Liz describes creating space as well as 'popcorn' and what can happen with that kernel.  Wisdom and truth.  That is Liz Massiah.
