    Valiant Women with Lena Andrews

    Valiant Women with Lena Andrews

On today’s episode, Sharon is joined by CIA military analyst, WWII expert, and debut author, Lena Andrews, to unveil the scale and scope of what women in uniform contributed during WWII. Over 350,000 American women served in uniform during the war, in every service branch, in every combat theater, and in nearly two-thirds of the available military occupations at the time. This ranged from critical support roles of flying planes across the country, drawing maps to help men get through Normandy, codebreaking, and building & maintaining the behind-the-scenes infrastructural work that made the heroics possible. If you loved our “How Women Won WWII” series, today’s episode will be a treat of untold history.

Ep. 835 - The War On Masculinity

Ep. 835 - The War On Masculinity

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, Senator Josh Hawley provokes mockery and jeers from the media for suggesting that there is an attack on masculinity in our culture. But he’s completely correct, of course. In fact, the situation is even worse than he describes. Masculinity is in its death throes in the West. And if masculinity dies, the West will go down with it. Also, another day, another prosecution witness in the Kyle Rittenhouse case accidentally destroys the prosecution’s case. Plus, Snopes does a fact check on the claim that Joe Biden let one rip in front of a member of the Royal Family. And in our Daily Cancellation, we’ll discuss the Republican Party’s embrace of sexual identity politics with the newly christened RNC Pride Coalition.

    Just Sex

    Just Sex

Casual sex typically isn't about love. But what if it's not even about lust? Sociologist Lisa Wade studies "hookup culture," and believes the rules and expectations around sex and relationships are different for college students today than they were for previous generations. This week we revisit our 2017 conversation with Wade, and consider how the pandemic may be changing students' views on hookups and intimacy.

Reimagining Fashion As Environmentally & Ethically Sound

Reimagining Fashion As Environmentally & Ethically Sound
We talk quite often about food on this podcast — particularly the health, environmental and ethical implications our collective dietary choices and the global impact of the industrialized food industry on the same. But you might be less consciously aware of the massive extent to which the garment industry impacts a wide range of concerns from global climate change to animal welfare to ethics and beyond. Fashion is a world that desperately needs an environmentally consci tion. Joshua and his work is part of that solution — leveraging forward-thinking, modern textiles and progressive, business practices that embrace fashion and aesthetics to bring consumers beautiful, better and quite honestly, more ethically imagined and manufactured garments for us to enjoy. This is a really interesting talk about: * the complex intersection of ethics, aesthetics and fashion; * the social norms and parameters that define masculinity; * why fur is the furthest thing from cool; * what really goes into creating garments from wool; * the environmental impact of raising animals for clothing; * the advent of more sustainable and ethically manufactured materials for garments; and * the realities behind what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur in the garment industry. Highly intelligent, hyper-articulate and of course always bespoke, Joshua is an outstanding ambassador and aesthete of modern fashion modalities, not to mention badass at CrossFit to boot. It's my honor to share my friend Joshua's message and experience with you and my hope is that you will come away from this conversation more enlightened and educated when it comes to aligning your consumerism with your values. I did. Even if fashion is not your thing, trust me. This compelling exchange just might surprise you. I sincerely hope you enjoy the offering. Peace + Plants, Rich
