Episode 25: The Cost of Leaving Women Behind

Episode 25: The Cost of Leaving Women Behind

Many people struggle with negotiation, and my experience of this is that women, more than men, struggle with this in business.  This happens, I believe,  in large part because we're not taught critical negotiation skills in our formative years.  And by the time we get to college - most universities still market their negotiation programs to a male audience.

And I’ve long believed that they key to closing the gap on critical gender equity issues lies in ensuring that women have relevant, affordable access to negotiation training.  But what do we do when those popular negotiation courses are predominantly marketed to men?

On our show today we explore what happens when we leave women behind: in marketing, in the classroom, in the board-room….it goes beyond the economic impact, it affects whole generations of girls and women in what they believe is attainable.

    Representation matters.

In this show, we look at examples of women being left out of the conversation in academia and in critical career roles.  What happens when this perpetuates itself without challenge?  Let’s jump in!

Beyond gender, representation in the toy industry

The iconic Mr. Potato Head from Hasbro is now simply the gender neutral Potato Head. Also this year, LEGO, WildBrain, and Mattel launched the Everyone is Awesome set, the Teletubbies Pride collection, and UNO’s Play with Pride deck in celebration of Pride Month.

This hour on Where We Live, we discuss diversity and inclusion in the toy industry, and its impact on child development.

We hear from experts on the trends and changing norms in the understanding of gender and how diversity must go beyond tokenization by toy manufacturers.
