Epigenetics & The Full Story of Inheritance with Bianca Jones Marlin

Was Lamarckian evolution actually right? Neil deGrasse Tyson, Chuck Nice, & Gary O’Reilly learn about the new field of epigenetics and how the lived experiences of past generations can get passed down genetically with neuroscientist & epigeneticist Bianca Jones Marlin.

    Why Nutrients?

    Why Nutrients?

The brain is made from, and runs on, nutrients. Enzymes, proteins, neurotransmitters, hormones, and all brain cells are made of nutrients. Nutrients protect the brain from oxidative stress and toxicity. Nutrients (and environment) determine genetic expression, regulating stimulating and inhibitory brain activity and other brain processes.  All of which underlies the effectiveness of nutrients in schizophrenia, as per the outcomes of Dr Carl Pfeiffer and Dr Abram Hoffer; and in bipolar, autism, learning disorders, violence, and other mental health conditions, as per the extensive database of Dr William Walsh.

    Change Your Genes

    Change Your Genes

Our genetic structure is fixed, but we can influence how genes express themselves, and thus improve our health.

To slow (and in some cases reverse) cellular aging:

    1. Eat healthfully.
    2. Exercise regularly.
    3. If you drink, do so in moderation.
    4. Quit tobacco products.
    5. Reduce stress.

Here’s the independent nutrition site I mention:  https://nutritionfacts.org

This video summarizes research on the power of a plant-based diet (specifically in reducing saturated fat intake) to slow cellular aging.

This video on stress management research highlights well-designed studies, including one showing that just 12 minutes of daily meditation for eight weeks can lengthen your telomeres—helping reverse cellular aging.

What is Epigenetics? Glad you asked!

What is Epigenetics? Glad you asked!
What is Epigenetics? Glad you asked! will feature Integrative Physician Dr. Kenneth Sharlin. Epigenetics is a new field which is gaining a lot of attention and is defined as the study of changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression rather than alteration of the genetic code itself. In other words, genes that we inherit can be expressed or repressed. It is currently thought that 70% of our gene expression can be changed, so inheriting a certain genetic predisposition does not seal your fate. Quite the contrary. Dr. Sharlin will explain why this is the case and, most importantly, how lifestyle choices impact gene expression. We will discuss the impact of lifestyle factors like nutrition, physical activity, obesity, environment and emotional health. The field of epigenetics brings deeper meaning to the belief that our health is in our own hands. Learn more about this fascinating field and how you can use this understanding to improve the quality of your life.
