Dr. Nancy A. Taylor is founder and CEO of Taylormade Senior Advocacy and Consulting LLC. She provides a guiding hand with Medicare Education including choosing drug plans, Provider and Care Coordination, Comprehensive Clinical Medication Reviews, and Medication Therapy Management. She retired as a pharmacist after over a decade in community pharmacy and started her company to better serve her aging patients. The transition from pharmacist to advocate was natural and empowering for both Dr. Taylor and those she serves.

Talking Senior Care and Finances with Ryan McEniff_108

Talking Senior Care and Finances with Ryan McEniff_108

People like to talk about finances about as much (or maybe less) than they like talking about death. But it is HUGELY important to know what your parents finances. And hopefully before you take on the role of family caregiver.

I’m talking with Ryan McEniff today and he’s talking to me about this topic. Ryan is the owner/CEO of Minute Women HomeCare in Lexington, MA and host of the podcast The Caregiver’s Toolbox. We are sharing our platforms to help get the word out about the need to have conversations with your parents early and often. We touch on many different issues related to finances and aging. Re-listening to this has given ME anxiety! But avoiding this topic doesn’t make the issues related to it go away. And putting these conversations off until your family is in crisis WILL NOT help you.

    Listen and learn about:

    • What home care can cost
    • What nursing home care can cost
    • Why you need to be proactive to help your parent. AND yourself
    • Where you can find resources to help you navigate this time

What's Up Doc? Dr. Mike Wasserman in the News

What's Up Doc? Dr. Mike Wasserman in the News
Dr. Mike Wasserman has achieved a sort of celebrity status over the past year and a half. His passion for what he saw as the tragedy of how COVID 19 ravaged nursing homes gnawed at his insides and his Twitter finger. From then until now he has not stopped speaking out about the inequality and injustices in treatment and care of nursing home residents and healthcare workers. This has gained him national recognition. One of the biggest concerns is that major TV news outlets for the most part have moved on from covering nursing homes. Articles continue to appear in print media from time to time and thought leaders and advocacy groups continue to push for legislative changes that lead to reform. Nevertheless it is slow going and certainly not getting the national spotlight and attention it did in the initial stages of the virus. Now we have moved from nursing homes as hotbeds of COVID19 to conversations about the vaccine and the Delta variant. Dr. Wasserman is equally passionate about the impact of vaccine hesitancy amongst healthcare workers and the Delta variant, both of which may contribute to a resurgence of the virus in the over 15,000 U.S. nursing homes, once again affecting our vulnerable older population. Dr. Wasserman can be an inspiration to us all. If we all take a stand, speak out in our own way, in places wherever people will listen, there may be hope of change in the care and treatment of our vulnerable older adults sooner than later.

In this interview, veteran Geriatrician Jomarie Zeleznik, M.D. openly and sincerely talks about the practice of geriatric medicine.
