As far back as I can remember, I've struggled with female friends. I have trouble meeting them, talking to them, connecting with them, and to maintain those friendships long term. I have a few here and there, but for the most part, that was them making the effort. For the most part I say. Growing up I didn't think much of it, except that I never got into makeup, shopping, and some decent girl gossip. Not that that's all girls do. With the boys I played video games and sports, perfected my poker game, devoured food, and probably warped my thinking a bit lol. Stereotypes aside, now as a single woman, I feel the absence of women in my life. I wish I had girls to go and hang out with, and meet men with! Going out with guys is the most repelling thing a single woman can do. So.... you think meeting guys is hard??? Well where do you meet girls??? Where??? WHERE???

We recently saw Coco Peru’s sold out performance here in Chicago at Hamburger Mary’s and we can’t stop talking about how wonderful it is, but, unlike one exuberant fan who got tossed out of the audience, we waited until the show was over to express our feelings.

Coco Peru’s new one drag queen show touches on some intense issues- living with regret, isolation, social media and aging. Amazingly, she always finds the humor in some pretty tough topics.

A lot of folks fell in love with the she larious Varla Jean Merman after seeing her play the ingenue in the iconic camp film Girls will Be Girls. When she made the film, she was already over a decade into the world of drag and ever since, she hasn’t stopped selling out shows across the globe.

But some things have changed for Varla, for the past several years she’s been hitting the gym hard, and it shows. While riding a New Orleans float at a Provincetown parade she got too hot in the summer sun so she took off her top and showed the world that the beauty is also a beast- a stunning, muscular hairy beast, with a fish tail!

Today Varla Jean Merman joins us to talk about how folks have reacted to her rocking bod and how she alters her drag to make room for bodybuilding.

Coco just finished taping the pilot for her talk show Conversations with Coco financed through crowd funding where she raised an unprecedented $105,000. And if that’s not remarkable enough, her first guest is the legendary Lily Tomlin!

One of the most beloved films featuring drag queens of all time is Girls Will Be Girls, where three actresses at various stages on the Hollywood food chain navigate the minefield of love, aging and ambition. The film features the raunchy ensemble of Coco Peru, Varla Jean Merman and Evie Harris, all drag queens who had separate careers but were brought together like Charlies Angels to create a dynamic comedy trifecta.

The entire project was a way for openly gay TV writer Richard Day and his friend Jack Plotnick to vent their fRustrations as gay men working in Hollywood.
Although Girls will be Girls was a hit with critics and audiences, the making of a sequel was cost prohibitive. Now, thanks to digital video cameras and fundraising tools like Kickstarter, fans raised the funds needed to create the apocalyptic sequel coming out next year: Girls Will be Girls 2012.

Today we are joined by Jack Plotnick, the man behind Evie Harris sharing with us the anguished journey of actors in Hollywood trying to find meaning in their lives and the origins of Evie Harris, a washed-up, alcoholic, aging C-List actress.
