Logan Maxwell Hagege: Contemporary Western Artist - Epi. 200, Host Dr. Mark Sublette

I had Logan Maxwell Hagege on the podcast today. He's such an interesting person and a wonderful artist. I think you'll really enjoy this podcast as it's my 200th podcast. It's appropriate for Logan to be my guest on this milestone episode just because of the ride we've had together and how I’ve had the pleasure of watching him mature as an artist over the past 20 years.

I remember him when he was in his early twenties. You could see there was a mountain of talent there, but he was struggling to find his voice at that particular point in time. Flash forward to now and he's one of the top artists in America.

His work is very recognizable and when you listen to him speak on his journey, he makes it evident that people don’t/can’t become great artists overnight. It takes struggle and it takes evolution to get to that next level. Logan’s drive and desire to bring a unique voice to the art world helped him overcome the adversity that every artist faces. He's a perfectionist when it comes to his work. He only wants the best stuff out there.

It was a really fun podcast and I think you'll really enjoy it. Logan Maxwell Hagege on the 200th episode of Art Dealer Diaries Podcast.

Glenn Dean: Landscape and Western Oil Painter - Epi. 167, Host Dr. Mark Sublette

Glenn Dean: Landscape and Western Oil Painter - Epi. 167, Host Dr. Mark Sublette

I had Glenn Dean on the podcast today. He came to my gallery in Tucson to film this podcast and was a fun podcast.  You know, the zoom podcasts are great and they make being able to see and talk to people from a variety of fields much easier, but I must admit - sitting next to somebody and having a meaningful intimate conversation is a whole different ball game, and we did just that.

You see, Glenn is a private person, and recording a podcast is probably not a thing that he's most comfortable with. That being said, the result was wonderful. It was just a great talk and very genuine, and it seemed like he was having a good time too.

Glenn has had a very interesting life. He's self-taught and I've always felt he's one of the most gifted artists that I represent, especially his ability to capture landscapes. Nowadays Glenn is doing more figurative work and it's a step above so many of his contemporaries. The guy just knows how to lay paint down.

It was a great experience getting to learn where his passion originated, he was a boogieboarder (a really good one) and was competing professionally. That could have been his career, but as I'm sure you've figured out by now, he chose a different route.

So for all those who've been waiting to hear Glenn talk about how he got where he is today OR if you're an aspiring artist, this is the podcast for you.

    So enjoy. Glenn Dean.

Billy Schenck: Pop Western Artist - Epi. 105, Host Dr. Mark Sublette

Billy Schenck: Pop Western Artist - Epi. 105, Host Dr. Mark Sublette

Billy Schenck came to deliver some paintings and wound up in the Medicine Man Gallery Studio for this episode of the Art Dealer Diaries. There's no reason why I can't grab somebody for another podcast that's already done one, especially if it's Bill Schenck. I wanted to get an update on Billy and how he's doing, and it turns out he's has had some pretty traumatic stuff going on in his life recently, namely a heart attack and being in the hospital in the middle of a global pandemic. We also talk about the show at the Tucson Museum of Art titled Southwest Rising: Contemporary Art and the Influence of Elaine Horowitch, curated by the great Dr. Julie Sasse. Bill was an important part of Elaine's stable of artists and a part of this show as well as the companion book. The show is unfortunately not open because of the pandemic, but will be most likely resume in August, maybe late July. The show provides the backstory of what was going on with Horwitch's gallery back in the '70s and '80s. Later on in the podcast, we talk about his home becoming a museum and how he sees himself and his legacy. I think you'll really enjoy this podcast, it was a spur of the moment interview and those my friends are the best types of interviews.
