On this episode, co-host Katy Starr and guest expert Dr. Reid Redden explore the intricacies of raising sheep and goats, including:

    • Differences and similarities between raising ruminant and non-ruminant species, particularly sheep and goats
    • Why some sheep are actually deficient in copper because of the fear of “copper toxicity”
    • The most common struggles sheep and goat owners face

Their discussion covers everything from the common myth that “goats will eat anything” to essential advice, making it a must-listen for anyone interested in entering the world of small-scale livestock ranching or even backyard sheep or goat ownership.

Season5, Episode #4~ Ice Cometh and Leaveth...

Season5, Episode #4~ Ice Cometh and Leaveth...

The farm got iced; Acorn fell on her ass, the Subaru slipped and Blind Hog was reeled in like a big old tuna.  Happily, the icing only lasted 48 hrs which was LONG enough!

Power never flickered and next week the farm will see actual sunshine and temps pushing 60F.

Acorn went to a hen party...  Yes, goat people are all nutty.  Also, Google Lens is the perfect tool... See the results from a Mystery Object on the website.

Season 2, Episode #28~ The Doctor Will See You Now...

Season 2, Episode #28~ The Doctor Will See You Now...

Blind Hog saw an ortho dude and it is all good news- torn calf muscle and he is already doing "all the right rehab things."  Tincture of Time , as my old MD boss would say.  In the meantime, he does what he can, puts his leg up, wears one of my stylish hiking compression socks and is his usual happy-go-lucky self.

Grass is taking off after the rain last week, fields looking good.  Garden will need to be watered soon.  Blackberries are beginning to ripen!  Yay!  Cows and goats have all been moved about to new paddocks.

The piggie chickies (Cornish cross broilers) are growing like weeds- between 2.25 and 2.5 lbs now.. Letting them out and about supposedly will slow their growth down, and they also do not get chicken feed at night.  They are a bit behind their growth chart, but as long as they don't fall over from heart attacks (common) then that is good.

Delivering the wall sculpture tomorrow!  Very excited!

    Episode #18~ It's All Good...

    Episode #18~ It's All Good...

Acorn thought she would be super tricksie and record an episode with Blind Hog and the Badger at lunch, only to later find that the recording was full of buzzes, snaps and feedback.  Nope!  So, Acorn sat down and did an off-the-cuff episode, best laid plans and all. Maybe next time.

Gutters are up on the dairy barn, trenches dug for the drainage lines and so it goes.  Don't know why we are putting up gutters- has not rained in 2 weeks!  But it will, one day- and we will be ready!

Acorn is looking at tenor ukuleles, and after struggling mightily, found a vendor with big heart- TheUkeBug.com is a mom and pop store in Ohio.  Acorn called them up on Saturday and had a great chat with Barb.. Wonderful selection, Barb and Greg went over the top to help poor Acorn decide between two ukes- and at this writing, she still is not quite sure which one she'll go for.  Find out next week!
