Despise Not Little Ones - Part 2

Despise Not Little Ones - Part 2

We are often impatient with ones who are less mature than us. However it is so important for us to humble ourselves and accept the fact that we are “little children” who are completely dependent on our Heavenly Father. As we rest in Him and receive His gentle demeanor toward us, we will be able to communicate this same attitude of love and patience to those around us.

Seeing how much God values little ones will help enable us to fulfill this command. Whether we are interacting with adults who are new in their faith or with children who need to mature, we can learn great lessons by looking to Jesus as our example! God’s desire is that we all become “as little children” - ones who are dependent on our Heavenly Father and who, in simplicity and trust, take Him at His word.

Despise Not Little Ones - Part 1

Despise Not Little Ones - Part 1

When the disciples asked Jesus “who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”, they were probably not expecting Jesus to answer the way He did! He pointed them to a little child and said that we must become as little children in order to enter the Kingdom. Join Nate and Gabe as they explore the rich insights of becoming “as little children” - ones who believe God and take Him at His word.

Isaiah 1 - Turn to God

Isaiah 1 - Turn to God

Your country is desolate, your cities burned with fire; your fields are being stripped by foreigners right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers. Isaiah 1:7

Spurgeon writes about chapter 1, saying  "It is clear from this chapter that the Lord views the sin of mankind with intense regret. We are obliged to speak of Him after the manner of men and in doing so we are clearly authorized to say that He does not look upon human sin merely with the eye of a judge who condemns it, but with the eye of a friend who, while He censures the offender, deeply laments that there should be such faults to condemn."

Conservative Friends Bible Study of 1 John #01 Chapter 1 Verses 1-4

Conservative Friends Bible Study of 1 John #01 Chapter 1 Verses 1-4

The epistles in the Holy Scriptures are often letters from an author to someone
else. However, In the case of the epistle 1 John, it is more of an essay, a
treatise, a sermon or message that was sent out to early Christian believers. The
name, “John” was common in the years of the early church, and it is possible that
these three epistles (1 John, 2 John and 3 John) were not necessarily written by
the apostle John, but by another prominent figure in the early church, John the
elder, whose name was also John. However, it is clear that all three epistles
(First, Second, and Third John) are all related in terms of how they perceive
Christ and the language that is used in them, which is very similar to the
language in which the Gospel according to John was written.  The epistles
appear to have been written in the 90’s A.D., at about the same time as the final
version of the Gospel of John.

For the first 1,400 years or so, the Holy Scriptures were not broken down into
chapters and verses. When one examines 1 John, it is possible, however, to
identify the main themes as they appear in the order in the epistle.

One of those divisions is Walking in the Light

    1. Living as God’s children
    2.  The Source of love and faith
    3. Conclusion
    4. Supplements to the epistle (a kind of post script)
      1. A prayer for sinners
      2. Summary of the letter.

After his introduction to the epistle, Henry then goes on, with a focus on the
original Greek, to examine the first four verses of Chapter 1 of First John. In
those verses, John emphasizes the complete divinity of Jesus as the “Word”,
(who in all ways was divine). John also proclaims the complete humanity of
Jesus (who in all ways was completely human). This was an effort by John to
combat the heretical attacks of those making Jesus mostly God, with only a
superficial, outward covering of humanity, instead of recognizing the complete
divinity and complete humanity of Jesus.

Fr. Mike emphasizes our title as children of God as we read about the tragedy of the Babylonian exile. Even in our lowest moments, God wants us to know that he has called us each by name and has called us his, because a good Father does not abandon his children. Today's readings are Isaiah 43-44, Ezekiel 4-5, and Proverbs 12:5-8. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Please note: The Bible contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children - parental discretion is advised.

1 John 4 The Power of Love S1E13

In this Episode 13 in 1 John 4 we continue with John’s statement “God is love”. But John switches gears a bit by bringing in the subject of judgement and fear.  We should not fear judgment…. because God’s love is working in God’s children.

    Dysfunctional Family Tree

    Dysfunctional Family Tree

We are starting a new podcast series this week called: Dysfunctional Family Tree. We tend to look at all the highlights of the family tree and want to leave out all of the lowlights. God's family tree is filled with imperfect people. This shouldn't scare us but instead give us great hope that we too can be apart of an imperfect family, with a perfect God.

The music on the podcast is from John Nugent. John is a Chicagoland area musician who has been a real blessing to Tabor Church.
