Sidiya Diop occupe une place particulière dans l’histoire du Sénégal du fait de ses origines, de son itinéraire et de son action.

Sidiya Diop est le fils de la Lingeer Ndate Yalla et de Sakoura Barka Diop plus connu sous le nom de Maaroso Tassé, influent chef de guerre. Né en 1848, il est mort au Waalo en 1855.

Through a series of extraordinary sound recordings, Dr. Matthew Herbert pushed us to hear further than we might have thought possible, asking the question: “How can systemic listening lead to meaningful action?”

To celebrate 60 years of the Goethe-Institut London, we held three Goethe Annual Lectures in 2022. For our third, we invited Dr. Matthew Herbert for his talk “Beyond Hearing”. The talk was moderated by Ella Finer, whose work in sound and performance spans writing, composing, and curating with a particular interest in how women’s voices take up space; how bodies acoustically disrupt, challenge, or change occupations of space.

Matthew Herbert is a musician, artist, producer and writer whose range of innovative works extends from numerous albums (including the much-celebrated Bodily Functions) to Ivor Novello nominated film scores (Life in a Day) as well as music for the theatre, Broadway, TV, games and radio. He has performed solo, as a DJ and with various musicians including his own 18 piece big band all round the world from the Sydney opera house, to the Hollywood Bowl and created installations, plays and operas. He has remixed iconic artists including Quincy Jones, Serge Gainsbourg, and Ennio Morricone and worked closely over a number of years with musical acts as diverse as Bjork and Dizzee Rascal.

Oumar Seydou Tall est né vers 1794 à Halwar, dans l’actuel département de Podor. Aprés son Périple qui l’a mené jusqu’à la Mecque. Il a propagé l’Islam en Afrique de l’Ouest par la Jihad armée et s’est farouchement opposé à la colonisation française.

Aline Sitoé Diatta est née vers 1920 à Kabrousse, dans le département d’Oussouye, au sud-ouest de la Casamance. L’affirmation du leadership d’Aline Sitoé Diatta coïncide avec les premiers actes de défiance ouverte des habitants de la Basse Casamance vis-à-vis du pouvoir colonial.

Le royaume du Sine est né au 14eme siècle avec l’arrivée du Guéléwar Maysa Walli MANNEH DU KAABU ( actuel Guinée-BISSAU) après la bataille de TROUBANG VERS 1335… Coumba Ndoffene faa mag en est une icône.

Le Sine va, avec le Saloum, sortir du joug du Jolof, comme le Kajoor, le Bawol et le Waalo, après la bataille de Danki, au milieu du 16eme siècle.

Samba Gelaajo Jéegi est né vers la fin du XVIIemesiècle à Diowol Worgo, dans l’actuelle région de Matam. Il est le fils de Gelaajo Jéegi, chef Deniyanke. Samba Gelaajo Jéegi régna quatre fois entre 1724 et 1742.

Mouhamad Bâ, plus connu sous le nom de Almamy Maba Diakhou Bâ, est né à Tawa, dans le Rip en 1809. Il opposé une rude bataille aux colons français et à œuvrer à l’expansion de l’Islam au Sénégal.
