CLASSICS-The Day The Earth Stood Still

CLASSICS-The Day The Earth Stood Still

Front Row Classics kicks off Summer 2021 with a touch of science fiction. We tackle the 50s sci-fi masterpiece, The Day the Earth Stood Still. Ryan Lootens, of Front Row Flashbacks, joins Brandon and Eric to break down one of the most popular films of the decade. The hosts discuss the legendary performance of Michael Rennie as Klaatu as well as the many classic genre tropes this film helped to inspire. The political climate of the early fifties also plays a major part in the discussion of a movie that still feels relevant 70 years later.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

We're going back to 1951 and another formative film of classic science fiction as we discuss Robert Wise's The Day the Earth Stood Still. Listen as we explore the film's political messages and religious subtext, praise Gort as one of science fiction's mightiest robots, and propose the existence of a cinematic universe built around bit player Roy Engel. Warning: Contains explicit language, spoilers, and nucular.... um... nuclear proliferation.

Our theme song is "Nostalgia TV" by Edward Jonathan Blakeley through Lynne Publishing.

    Episode 131 - Star Trek: TNG - S1E7 Justice (1:16:30)

    Episode 131 - Star Trek: TNG - S1E7 Justice (1:16:30)
We boldly go where no man has gone before, on this show at least, and discuss an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation with our pal, Patrick MacFarlane of the Liberty Weekly Podcast. You can find his show at: http://www.libertyweekly.net

    Season 1, Episode 7: Justice

When Wesley is sentenced to death for innocently violating an alien planet’s custom, Captain Picard is forced to choose between negotiating for Wesley’s life or adhering to the Federation’s prime directive which prohibits interfering with another civilization’s way of life.

This has a great philosophical and legal conundrum that we will sink our teeth in to as a special birthday request of co-host, Robert Johnson.

Join us next week as we eat tiny burgers with the host of the Cannabis Heals Me Podcast and we discuss "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.”

Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective.

We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter.

We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film.

The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film.

We publish at least once per week; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics) and have guests.

Episode 129 - The Day the Earth Stood Still (1:30:52)
We stare at the brink of destruction and analyze a movie that was so good, they made it twice. We're talking about "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with special guest, Dr. Dennis Foster.

The original 1951 version about the Cold War where an alien emissary gives a dramatic demonstration of power when he attempts to warn mankind about the folly of atomic experimentation.

In the remake Watermelon one they made Heinz-57 years later in 2008 starring Neo from the Matrix, renowned scientist Dr. Helen Benson finds herself face to face with an alien called Klaatu, who travels across the universe to warn of an impending global crisis.

Join us next week as we gear up for a Memorial Day episode on Rambo: First Blood.
