Yellowstone in Spring with Darren Rees, Roy Atkins and Jayne Behenna

Yellowstone in Spring with Darren Rees, Roy Atkins and Jayne Behenna

Darren says it best "After Africa, Yellowstone is the best place to go for mammals." Affectionally known by our guides as the 'cuddly critters' tour, Yellowstone is always a holiday of highlights.  During this episode Roy chats to our guide Darren Rees and guest Jayne Behenna who have recently returned from our 2023 spring holiday.

Jayne has previously been to Yellowstone with us to see the solar eclipse and she loves her mammals - with 29 bear sightings she was certainly pleased during this trip, along with highlights of wolves, a 'bonkers beaver' (with his own Facebook page),  erupting geysers and stunning landscapes throughout Yellowstone and the Grand Teton National Park.

STORY PODCAST #2: JARGO! The largest trout caught in North America by yousr truly, then a HUGE bet followed up by the best magic show ever!

STORY PODCAST #2: JARGO! The largest trout caught in North America by yousr truly, then a HUGE bet followed up by the best magic show ever!

This is the second in my Story Podcasts where I regale you guys with some of my adventures growing up in the Yellowstone Area and in particular, Henry's Lake which is just 15 short minutes from the entry to Yellowstone Park.

In this podcast, I tell you three stories. The first is about how I caught the largest trout caught in North America when I was only 14, followed by a huge bet and how a man is only as good as his word. And we finish it off with the best magic show I have ever seen.

STORY PODCAST #1: Snaggletooth the Bear & the History of the Yellowstone Indians and Lake Henry's.

STORY PODCAST #1: Snaggletooth the Bear & the History of the Yellowstone Indians and Lake Henry's.

As anyone who has listened to my Yellowstone & Grand Teton podcasts that you can listen to if you want more info than the is shown in the guidebook, knows that I tell a LOT of stories about the areas of the parks you are visiting. And I get a LOT of requests to hear even more stories so here goes.

This is the first in what will be a series of my Story Podcasts where I will tell you some really fun, sometimes sad and some rather interesting stories about the areas in and around the parks for you to enjoy as you drive along.

In this podcast, I tell the hilarious story of what was and is one of the most famous bears in the history of bear's-Snagglethooth! Who actually resides in the West Yellowstone Museum right now and how he tore my Aunt Rosalind's brand new Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser to shreds one night at the town dump.

I then follow it up with another museum story but this time it's at the long gone museum that sat along the shores of Lake Henry's where I grew up as a kid and how I found an old picture that showed  how the Indian's that called Yellowstone home used the then swampy lake as sacred ground and how their burial plots were scattered on mounds in the lake by the hundreds. And how I almost found one as I was water skiing in the lake hundreds of years later.

It's all fun listening and there will be other Story Podcasts to follow!

Top 8 Places to Spot Wildlife in Grand Teton National Park

Michelle and I have gone to Grand Teton National Park so many times, we know where and when to find the wild animals. We've seen grizzlies, black bears, bison, elk, moose and more up close. Sometimes too close. This will tell you where you have a good chance of spotting these animals and the stories behind our adventures (for example, when we ran TOWARDS a bear that came through our campsite).

2022 Part One: Spain, Vail, Jackson Hole

2022 Part One: Spain, Vail, Jackson Hole

As we near the end of January, Michelle and I are in a vacation holding pattern. We don't have any trips planned for a couple of months. So we're taking this time to look back on 2022. It was a year full of adventure! So much adventure we're splitting it up in two parts. In part one we review our trips to Vail, Jackson Hole, Oregon and the highlight of the first half of the year, and possibly the entire year, the Canary Islands. It was hard to top that, but the second half of 2022 came close. We'll dive into that soon in part two! Hope you enjoy! Check our our Youtube Channel for the video version. We're "Let's Talk with Mark and Michelle".

This week we are talking about the murders of Dr. Martin and Emmalynn Payne.  Did this couple actually disappear while walking through the Grand Teton National Forest, or was their disappearance a product of foul play?  Grab a beverage and join us as we enjoy ciders from Farmstead Cider, and discuss the details of this case!

On The Trail: The Wild West Trail

On The Trail: The Wild West Trail

Carmen Rao and Joel Salvino, creators of the Wild West Trail share an overview of the trail along with their adventures hiking it.

The Wild West Trail connects the most intact temperate ecosystem on the planet. At over 2,200 miles long it traverses the heart of the North American Continent. The genesis of the hike is in Jarbidge Nevada, from there the arduous journey shoots northward to the Canadian Border. Turning east, it turns south inside Glacier National Park and the eastern terminus is Jackson pass, in the Teton Mountains (source: wildwesttrail.co)

    Western Adventure with Ma

    Western Adventure with Ma

My Mom and I flew out to Billings, MT on Tuesday August 14th and rented a car for a week to go explore the Great Out West. We visited the Battle of Little Big Horn on the first day and ended up in Buffalo, WY by the second night just missing Longmire Days which was the previous weekend. We then drove through the beautiful country side into Cody, WY by the third day and took in a rodeo of coarse. Our fourth day landed us in Jackson Hole, WY after driving through half of beautiful Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks. We ended up crashing out there for a couple nights as Mom came down with pneumonia. After she stared to feel a little better, we continued on back north through the Tetons and Yellowstone checking out Old Faithful and running with the buffalo. We then had a close call as we coasted down Bear Tooth Pass in the dark and almost on fumes but found gas and a nice hotel in Red Lodge, MT for our sixth night on the road. Then as our vacation time wound down, we headed back to Billings to catch a flight home on the 21st. We fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and the romance of all the rich history of the land. We met some wonderful people and had amazing mother/daughter bonding time. I feel so lucky to share this experience with my mom.....pneumonia and all.
